Okay so I'm gonna skip the whole "this is my first entry of this journal so expect blah blah blah" entry and jump right in to what's going on.
So this is my first day of starting the Master Cleanse, or as some people call it, The Lemon Juice Cleanse. Let me explain.
I am a regular juice faster. I have done it about every 3 months for 6 years now. I drink nothing but fresh juice for 4 days straight, no solid food at all. I use this to clear out stored toxins in my body and bring my energy level way up. It even lessens my mood swings which my friends are pretty happy about. I highly recommend it -IF- you are healthy enough and need a good challenge for your will power. This is my first time trying this type of cleanse and some celebrities swear by it.
So what is the Master Cleanse? I'm not gonna lie. It will sound pretty gross. Every day for the next 5 - 10 days I will be drinking the following:
- 14 Table Spoons of Organic Lemon Juice squeezed
- 14 Table Spoons of Organic Maple Syrup
- 1/2 Teaspoon Cayenne Pepper - or to taste (as much as you can stand)
- 2 Liters/quarts of pure water
This mixture provides the daily nutrients through the lemon juice and a great dose of Vitamin C. The Maple syrup contains essential minerals and sugars I'll needed throughout the day to keep my blood sugar at a healthy level. The Cayenne Pepper helps regulate metabolism because when you fast, it slows your metabolism without using the pepper. Sound gross? It does to me but I haven't had my first serving yet. I'm a bit nervous but I will let you know later :)
The second part of the fast sounds even more gross so bare with me.
The second part is the daily Salt Water Flush. (you can also do lax herbal tea but the process is slower) This part is very important so if you are doing this particular cleanse so don't skip it. If you are guessing what "flush" means, you are probably on the right track. Every day I will be drinking approx one liter of water mixed with 2 teaspoons of sea salt (NOT IODIZED). This kicks in about 30 - 60 minutes after you drink it. They say to expect about 3 - 7 eliminations within the hour but after that I am free to go about my day. This is ( as someone put it on the website) a "crappy" process because it keeps the digestive tract "moving" if you know what I mean. This is the natural way to a colon cleanse. All that 28 years of build up will be OUT.
I have heard from friends who have tried this that the first two days are the hardest. He told me the first day or two is the hardest because you are just hungry and your system is used to daily digestion. I'm not too worried because I'm a regular faster and my doctor doesn't suspect I'll be adopting an eating disorder any time soon.
After the fast I will ween myself back onto a normal diet. Day 11 will be orange juice and vegetable juices. I got a new juicer so I will put that to more use. Day 12 will be raw fruits and veggies and the last day I will be back to my normal diet.
One thing I like about the fast is not so much the weight loss (which is rapid if you haven't guessed) but the sense of "new" I will feel. After a successful fast it is hard for me to go back to junk food and over processed food. It's been a while since I have lasted through a fast completely but we will see.
Wish me luck!
