My various jobs that have involved working with the public seem to have made me cynical in an oddly specific way. Namely, I no longer have any faith that people will see, correctly interpret, or in any way pay attention to signs. In fact, sometimes it seems that if you want to actively hide information from the general population, the best way to do so would to put it on a very large, brightly colored sign right at eye-level. Perhaps with some flashing lights, just to be sure.
My co-workers and volunteers are all convinced that if we just have a better sign at the exit from the main room, our traffic issues will be solved, and yeah, it'll probably help to have something, but I'd bet money that we'll still have people who can't figure out which door to use. Every time this has come up (about once every hour or two in the past few days), I keep thinking of the various highly creative ways people have gotten lost when we've provided directional signage, lighting, pathways, etc. And no, it's not a matter of stupidity or lack of education or anything, it's just that no matter how obvious you think something is, to someone else who isn't familiar with the layout, or is just thinking differently*, it might not be. Or they're very well trained to never ever go through a door labeled as an emergency exit even if it's open and you're being told to go that way.
*Personally, I wouldn't have thought the shadowy niche was a more likely location for the bathroom than the brightly lit hallway, but hey. At least she stopped before running into the wall. And technically the arrow was pointed that way.

MOVIE LOG: Zombieland--Admittedly before seeing this I'd said I was getting a bit tired of the whole zombie fad that seems to be going on, but you know what, it's a really fucking funny movie. Also, good use of slo-mo.
