work, work, work
busy, busy, busy
bla, bla, bla
you get it.

The Hour with George Stroumboulopoulous remains the best source I have for news, interviews and edutainement. It beats out the Daily show by a long shot and even noses past my favorite interviewer Charlie Rose. The most recent interviews posted online include one with Dr. Morgentaler, the doctor generally seen as the spearhead of the battle for abortion legislation in the eighties. I knew of the man but not his name, and so I am only now realizing that the band 'Me, Mom and Morgentaler' actually have a really funny name. The interview makes you realize that this octogenarian is stoic, pragmatic and has complete conviction in his beliefs. I too believe that a woman's right to choose outweighs any moral issues about the life of an unborn fetus so seeing someone who worked so hard to make that a reality in Canada was empowering to see.

But don't for a second think that makes it a good interview.

I suspect that same conviction and single-mindedness that made this man capable of accomplishing the long journey to legalized abortion and available clinics, not to mention being a surgeon, are what make him frightfully dull to speak to. He answers every question matter-of-factly and without exposition. There is no banter nor excitement in the conversation. In watching it I realized that if push came to shove I'd want to be the same way: better a dull man of accomplishment then an exciting one without ability.

Finally, I'm upset with my bike chronometer. I pushed myself hard on the way home tonight (a distance of 17 km) and was thrilled when my timer told me I had accomplished this in 33m30s. However as I lay on the ground waiting for an unsettling case of full-body shakes to wear off, I realized to my chagrin that only 14.7 km were logged into the machine. That means that sensor on my wheel isn't being recorded on every rotation, which will muck up the distance and speed, but because of the sensor system, might affect the total time as well. Two nights ago I achieved then best time for the same route of 36m04s with the full 17 kliks logged in and an average heart rate of 162bpm. This time I felt I pushed a little harder, had better luck with the traffic lights and got an average of 168bpm, which I would like to think makes a noticeable difference. So I'm sure I've beaten my record, I just don't know by how much.

I'll have to adjust the odometer sensor and then just beat it again. I don't think it will happen tomorrow though, this ride will need a day at least to recover from.
