360

The Xbox 360 is seeming more and more kickass. The cooler games are coming out.

I got my brother Dead Rising for his birthday. It's pretty intense and pretty fun. Apparently they've already shipped half a million copies, and there were 5 million 360 users as of the end of June - that's quite the ratio! The reviews are universally positive as well.

I played Saints Row a bunch last night as well. Honestly, because they made no bones about ripping off GTA, and decide instead of focus on refining the formula, I'm actually curious how Rockstar will keep up with GTA IV. Rockstar's game will surely be more creative, but I really like a lot of the refinements in Saints Row. It has better controls, a better map, more clearly define goals, and a lot of handy little features that save headaches.

For the features, it's nice to be able to save anywhere. It keeps the game more immersive when you can do a mission, save where you are, then continue on your way to do other missions. The money actually gets a bit tight so you have to budget; it makes battles seem more significant when you had to pay for your ammo, and it makes the side missions more fun when you're doing them for a purpose. Health slowly regenerates - you'll still die if you don't take cover when you're being ambushed, but since it regenerates slowly, you get less shy about jumping headfirst into a battle. Plus, losing all your health is not the end of the world... in GTA, you basically have to reload, as you lose all your weapons. In Saints Row, they charge you for your hospital visit, and you can continue on your way! Sweet.

Sure, it's not realistic, but it's more FUN, and that's what it's all about.

NHL 07 looks like it'll be awesome as well. Apparently you actually control the stick itself, so your moves are as creative as you are.
