Yesterday was the Queen's official birthday, and also the day we officially celebrated my youngest son's 21st. (His birthday was in the mid of final exams so we delayed the celebration).
Had a lovely day. Bacon sarnies and birthday cake for lunch, then off to watch X-Men First Class followed by cocktails and ribs at TGI Friday. X-Men First Class is surprisingly good. I loved James McAvoy as the young Charlies Xavier, and the actor playing magneto was also excellent. It was definitely worth the price of a movie ticket.
TGI Friday, meanwhile, were completely thrown by me ordering an Old Fashioned cocktail despite it being on their menu. There was much consulting of bar staff and peering at the recipe book. The drink I eventually got was an Old Fashioned poured over a very large quantity of crushed ice, which wasn't necessarily a bad thing, but still not quite what I was expecting. Later on I ordered a second one and things got even more confused. First the waitress we'd ordered it from brought me another crushed ice attempt but then moments later the waitress who was actually assigned to our table turned up with a proper old fashioned. Much confusion and explanation took place, which ended up with us having the crushed ice drink for free - so three quite strong cocktails for the price of two in the end. Apparently two of the bar staff were quite new, and the guy who really knows his stuff came on shift half-way through our meal - hence the proper version of the cocktail turning up. I think there will be some staff training going on!
Anyway, a very nice day, and do go and see X-Men First Class - it makes up for the fiasco of X-Men Last Stand.
