West Highland Way - Day 1

Apr 29, 2011 18:38

After a lovely drive yesterday to Milngavie (we stopped off at a tiny little place with fabulous views over Morecambe Bay and toured around a national trust castle) today was time to put on the boots and get walking.

12 miles done, 83 to go. Not happy to get a blister within 3 miles - I've worn these boots loads so it must've been the socks. Will be wearing better socks tomorrow! It was a lovely day - sun shining, loads of bird life and song. We think we saw an osprey - we definitely saw a sparrowhawk and curlews and loads of smaller hedgerow birds and a mass of pheasant.

Just before lunch we stopped off at Glengoyne distillery for a wee dram of the amber nectar. Now we're about to head for dinner having caught up with all the royal wedding news on the telly.

Tomorrow we have 14 miles to walk. Not sure my poor aching legs are going to enjoy that!
