Alright, so Day Two of the road trip is winding down. We're in Sidney, Nebraska-over a thousand miles in the rearview mirror and still going strong. I've found hotel internet works, but is prone to frequent disconnects and reconnects. And pools and spas feel very good after sitting on your ass for hours in a car. I've also learned a bit about "wide open spaces". Different states, different ideas. Here's what we've got so far.
California: lots of mountains, lots of trees (smells like camping!!!)
Nevada: lots of dessert
Utah: lots of salt flats, a large salt lake (no way!) and mountains
Wyoming: lots of flat, empty space, some mountains in the distance
Nebraska: lots of flat empty space, only now it's covered in green grass/corn (hello cornhusker state)
Obviously, the descriptions merge around state borders, but it's pretty standard. And there are some really fun names out here...Flaming Gorge Dam, lots of Buttes, things like that.
Something else to note: Aiea is right, Wyoming does not exist.
OK, granted, she said Nebraska didn't exist, but let's concentrate on Wyoming here. Wyoming doesn't exist. Our cell phones (which set themselves to atomic time automatically) were reading 2 hours earlier than it was. At 2:30, it was reading 12:30. Now, keep in mind, Wyoming should be on mountain time-an hour ahead of pacific time. Which means Wyoming is clearly somewhere between California and Hawaii. Chew on that.
Alright, time to settle in. This place has a whirlpool and I fully intend to draw myself a bubble bath (hey-I'm travelling with all my stuff-why wouldn't I have my bubble bath? ;) )
