OK, geolinguist, just for you:

1)Total number of films I own on DVD/video: 29 (30 if you count the Puff Experiment-based NASA HDTV pilot I helped shoot that I have a copy of....) :D

2)The last film I bought: Actually, I bought two: Elf and Fahrenheit 9/11... right there, that should give you an idea the multiple personalities I have regarding films/movies...

3)The last film I watched: (on dvd) Any Given Sunday, (on tv- sundance channel) Design , (at the theatre) Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy

4)Five films that I watch a lot or that mean a lot to me (in absolutely no particular order):

1. (ok this is two films with similar feeling inspired in me...) A River Runs Through It and Legends of the Fall . And OMG, I KNOW Brad Pitt is in both... that had NOTHING to do with it. Among other things that hit home in both these movies, the main draw: my infatuation with the conflict between excess and wild and real, finding an odd sense of art and grace in the cathartic rise and fall... and the reserved, educated, somewhat oppressed (rather self-induced oppression) of the 'good guy' that never quite achieves the 'real life'.

2. PI- I think anyone who knows me in the least would understand why this is one. But besides my obvious infatuation with patterns and mathematics and Aronofsky, is the other take-home message (at least that I get): sometimes it ends up working out for the best when you kill a part of your brain, sacrifice the genius just to be more human, to live, survive, and feel; connect with the people you live with... OH! But there IS an underlying mathematical representation of EVERYthing... (it just becomes to complicated to be worth anything to anyone most sane people.)

3. Gone in 60 Seconds - This film has sexy female and HOT hot cars. Oh yeah, and it's an action film with character development and a decent plot. Actually there are only a couple films with Nicolas Cage that I don't love.

4. Dragon: The Bruce Lee Story - Yeah, it's a pretty cool movie; more importantly it shows parts of Hong Kong I have been to, things I have seen, recognize, and miss. Lot's of cool weird memories with this one. (I am sure there is some Van Damme movie that has Hong Kong shots in it too... cool.)

5. All the god damn silly movies that keep my family together/halfway sane- Most notably National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation, which even my 84-year-old grandmother can quote and giggle from. Yeah, somehow sitting at the dining room table with my family is just too intense and our only way of connecting and being close is quoting stupid movies. And, honestly, that ends up being exactly what we all need. Weird. If you've ever seen my brothers and I get started... you know what this turns into.... (Throw into this category all the Adam Sandler movies and all the Chris Farley movies)

6. (Can I have a sixth?) Ok, no. But still there are a WHOLE LOT of other movies I love and/or have watched many many times- Honorable mention, if you will: A Beautiful Mind, Good Will Hunting, Requiem for a Dream, Birdcage, Breakfast at Tiffany's, Matrix, Sphere, Moulin Rouge, Any Given Sunday, Office Space, Strange Brew, Monty Python, The Evil Dead movies... I know there's more....

5) Which 5 people am I passing the baton on to? And why?

1. shadowsofgod.. of course... the girl who knows everything and who must teach me the way....
2. xbrokenx.. totally curious
3. oogonzo.. ditto: totally curious
4. comicserpent... I've seen commentary on the worst movies ever.... what about the best?
5. everyone else I know
