Well, today my mentor teacher was gone from class to go to a professional development meeting, so she left the lesson plan with a sub and me. When the sub got there she realized that I pretty much had all the materials for everything and that I knew what I was doing, so she let me completely take over for the whole day. So...this day is VERY special to me now...9-18 will go down in my personal history as the first day I got to teach a whole day by myself. It was lots of fun and I learned a lot. I know I'm being a bit cheesy and silly about it going down in history, but anyone who knows me...knows I'm a complete dork.
Yesterday I taught a writing lesson and made one boy basically get sick from stage fright. I felt so horrible, but was reassured by the other teachers that it wasn't my fault and that eventually everyone has to do something they do not enjoy. Luckily he was not upset with me today.
I am absolutely LOVING teaching in the fourth grade...I don't want to move to Kindergarten...but I know it will be an interesting experience for me, and I don't like avoiding a challenge...especially when it comes to my professional growth.
Yesterday I started tutoring a few kids in math too. That was fun...a boy attempted to bribe me to get out of it, but I told him teachers couldn't be bribed and he told someone that today. Hehe...during math another kid was trying to get out of classwork and the boy went up to 'em and said "She can't be bribed...trust me...I've tried. Don't bother, just do your work." I thought that was SOOOO cool that something I said stuck and helped one student encourage another to work for me. :)
Anyways...that is all for now...just very excited today because of my first full day of teaching. :) I was proud of myself. I also learned a bit about myself today...well, I already knew I was a bit quiet, but I didn't realize HOW quiet...that is something I'm definitely working on. I think I might bring my flute again since they seemed to like that and it is a good attention getter when everyone is talking. :)
I'll try to update more but that will probably be hard. I'm always either student teaching, in class, or working til really late at night so that I can get money to actually afford life.
Amelia...or as my kiddos call me...Ms. Hastings ;-P
