Friends and enemies

For a while there, I was the enemy. Still, during that time, I didn't consider the other guys to be my enemies. They were ... misguided, shackled, under the thumb of the powers that be, all of those, but never the enemy.

As for keeping your enemies close, I think that you need to know how they think, understand how they maneuver so that if it comes to battle, you have the tools to beat them.

Sun Tzu says that all warfare is based on deception, and that if the enemy "is secure at all points, be prepared for him. If he is in superior strength, evade him. If your opponent is of choleric temper, seek to irritate him. Attack him where he is unprepared, appear where you are not expected."

Friends forgive faults, enemies take advantage of them.

As far as I know, I don't have any personal enemies. There are those I am in opposition to because of my work, but that's not the same thing, I don't think. Anyway, I'd like to think I have more friends. At least, I seem to have more people who will talk to me than those who'd walk out the door rather than be in the same room.
