Asian Firms

  •      When I'm at home, I tend to watch movies in short installments as opposed to all at once (please forgive me David Lynch). It is most likely because I tend to watch movies while in bed, and being curled up under the covers is the easiest way to make a person sleepy. If I choose to watch a movie on the couch on the floor next to the couch (don't ask), I become extremely restless. Anyone who has ever gone to see a movie with me at the theater knows that I cannot sit still for more than a few minutes, and I am always changing positions. This problem becomes worse at home because I have the option of getting up and moving around and thus ceasing my movie-watching.
Because of this, it's taken me over a week to watch the new Ang Lee film Lust, Caution. When I told someone about having only a half-hour left of the movie to watch, I was asked if my reluctance to finishing it was because the movie was boring. It's not boring at all, I've just somehow lost any and all patience to sit down and watch a movie all the way through without either getting too tired to focus or too distracted or uncomfortable. Weekdays are usually not an option for me to watch/finish movies since I have a fairly strict work/internet/TV/sleep schedule, so I generally only get through films on the weekends. If I'm having a busy Saturday or Sunday, you can forget it.
Anyway, as I was saying, I have about a half hour left of Lust, Caution, and so far I like it. The film garnered quite a bit of controversey  when it was released because of its explicit, possibly un-simulated sex scenes. I didn't mind them, but it was very strange seeing Tony Leung of all people buck-ass naked with his dick flopping around. Newcomer Wei Tang is super, amazingly hot as the lead female in this movie, despite having era-appropriate pit-hair.
  •      Over the weekend, I also saw the much-hyped Mongol in the theater. I was surprised to see that there was a respectable crowd in attendance for the afternoon showing; most of them were old people but I was lucky enough to sit next to a big, fat dude who giggled at the mention of Kazakhstan (the country in which Mongol was made) during the opening credits. This film--about the Ghengis Khan's rise to power--was of particular interest to me because of my supposed Mongolian ancestry. Apparently I have trace amounts of Mongol blood in me, due to the Mongol invasion of Europe in the early part of the last milenium. Whenever I tell people about my asian heritage they think I'm joking, atlhough my twin brother tends to get away with this more than I do (he looks vaguely Asian much in the same way Bjork does - likely due also to our strong Swedish heritage).
The movie wasn't bad, although it covered only Ghengis Khan's rise to power and not his near-global domination. Basically, it all the stuff that happened in his life before it became interesting. Considering what the movie lacked and that the notorious ruled was portrayed in an overwhelmingly positive light, I was entertained and I did not regret paying ridiculously high movie ticket prices to see it.
  •      I've been out of the loop as far as video games have been concerned for the past couple of years and have been thinking about getting a game console to keep myself entertained, but am not sure which route would be best. There were plenty of great games released for the PS2 that I missed and as the classics are at a reduced price ($20 at the most), the system itself would only cost $130, maximum. On the other hand, it's clear that the PS2's days are numbered and if I find that my interest in console video games doesn't wane as it had before I may end up having to buy another new machine. Keeping that in mind, I like the Xbox 360 the most out of any of the newer systems and would like to give them a shot, but I am not as familiar with their catalogue of games and undoubtably the hardware and software would cost much more than the PS2's.
I have no interest in owning a Wii at this point.
  •      http://www.dealdump.com is a pretty neat site. Does anyone else have any cool/useful website they'd like to share? I've also just begun using RSS feeds, so if anyone has any they'd like to suggest I'd appreciate it.
