I sat at the bar in The Brass Mug, being a stagnant figure amongst rapid (or I should say drunken) movement, clouded by smoke and further polluted by the noise of piss-poor karaoke. To say that I was in a shithole would be an understatement, yet so would it be to say that I had a good time. I turned to Derek, who lifted his plastic cup and lamented; "This place is (trashy)...but, god, I love it!" I don't smoke, am not a heavy drinker nor am I very much into most of the music my generation or generations past enjoy, though to be within such an environment where people are simply enjoying themselves is so refreshing. While I am not going to take up smoking or heavy drugs, I've always found the idea of "straight edge" cultrue so ridiculous because of how serious its context is.
XSTRAIGHTEDGEX FOR LIFE!!!
Does that not look at all silly? Besides allergies, I simply do not smoke because I have no need/desire for it. Similar for drugs and the like. I would kick myself if I ever got addicted to cigarettes, although for the record I have never tried it. I used to be proud of that sort of thing, and I still am in a way, but only because I'm able to think for myself not because "oh, well I've never smoked!"
Ultimately, and this is why I am most perturbed by "straight edge", I think there are more noble decisions one can make in their life than whether or not to partake in drugs/alchohol/sex, etc. How do I show off to my companions that I don't lie? Steal? Abuse others? What kind of marks do I leave on my hands for that? A big, pink heart?

Michael Moore will be speaking at USF Friday, October 1st at noon. The campus Burger King will be closed that morning for preparations. If anyone would like to go let me know. I may just stay on campus instead of going home Thursday and perhaps if anyone goes to this they can bring me back to 'The Port'.

Michael J. Fox spoke today here as well. I missed it, but I'm sure he really shook the place up.

Anybody want to go to Tallahassee sometime for a weekend in the near future? I need a ride up there so I can participate in Dan Caffrey's short film "POE". Perhaps we could write in a little part for you!

The film is about hipsters and I am proud to say that I prepared for the role by reading this book:

It's deck!
