Or Sad Tami, that she has a Sad Jeep!
The Green Jeep is ill, it has been slowly becoming ill for a while now and then it went tits up pretty quickly towards the end :( It was doing this thing where it felt like it was only running on 4 out of the 6 cylinders, so my friend Alex who pretty much shares my vehicles with me, recommended I take it in to get new spark plugs, as that might be the issue. It then started doing this lurching thing at stop lights, where it was vibrating hard, as if it was about to stall! So I took it into Canadian Tire to get new spark plugs on Thursday thinking that'd hopefully fix the issue! It fixed the sluggish issue that it was having at accelleration, but then when I got out of the parking lot, at the first red light I got to, it was doing the shake thing again! So I took it to get gas since the indicator said "E" and the light was on, and turns out that gage is -really- messed up nowadays since the tank was probably 5/8 full, and only took 20 bucks of the premium gas which I use in it.
That was fine, pulled out and decided to take it up to the highway just between Aulds and Mostar road to see how it performed at a higher speed, just at that short distance and about halfway along I look down and the temperature gage is in the RED! Now, that alarmed me because the temperature gage on that thing has -never- cracked above 1/4 mark. Given that its been having these issues and the spark plugs clearly didn't solve the problem, and I was wondering if perhaps they bumped something or maybe forgot to hook something up, I turned around and took it straight to Applecross automotive which is the auto shop that my Island family uses.
They said that there was a slim chance they could get a look at it later on in that day but the repair work would all have to be done Friday (today) so I am actually simply staying here on the island this week since by this point, it just wouldn't make sense to go home for one day just to turn around and drive back. Waste of ferry fare, waste of petrol, waste of a lot of things.
So, last night the shop gave me a call and said that they had some news, turns out it was the water pump was leaking which is why the engine was overheating. I'm glad that I drove slowly, the rest of the way back to the shop once I noticed it was in the red!!! If I had tried to simply ignore it and kept on driving it, then it would've destroyed my engine altogether! Yikes!
So my options were a new water pump, and a new serpentine belt while they had everything off anyways, and that would be $562.17 or I could get a rebuilt water pump, and forget about the serpentine belt, and the difference turned out to be less than $100 so I just said go for the new and new. MY POOR BABY!!!! I feel so bad that my poor Jeep is sick because this is my "firstborn" as I refer to it, my first car, my favourite, my beloved Green Jeep which I adore and do my very best to pamper!
At least today it will be fixed! Phew!
Still it makes me sad to think that I didn't get it into the shop sooner. I'm thinking that for that vehicle, it'd be worth my while to stop taking it simply to Mr. Lube for oil changes and fluid top ups, and simply start taking to Newton Auto Care which is my mechanic's shop, and he can do regular maintenance and servicing on it from now on. It'll cost a bit more but I think in the long run that's the better bet!
Alright, I think I'm going to watch a movie.
Heaps o' love.
