July 28- Marsi had the day off. We had been talking about getting a kitten for a long time and I really wanted her to get one because I know how happy they make her. She took the day off to be with me so we made our way down to the shelter. We found this little litter of baby kittens and fell in love...especially with this little gray one. She was super feisty, a non-conformist, and more adorable than I could even describe.
July 29- We decide to get her. Unfortunately we have to wait 5 days to pick her up. It doesn't matter though because we are STOKED we are getting a kitten.
August 3- They day is here! We decided to name her Dr Winifred Piddles, PhD. Of course our cat ha to be ridiculously smart getting her PhD in cuteness with an emphasis in feist. We were excited to know that she was only 6 weeks old and super hand-held. She was loving and playful and fluffy and beautiful blue eyes. On Tuesday and Wednesday I convinced Marsi to stay home with me so we could love the Doctor and play with her all day. It was bliss.
August 8- We take Winnie to my house to meet my cats and to play outside. I was weary about doing this but it went well. She LOVED playing outside. She had been acting out by pooing on the bed and couch for the past few days but we thought nothing of it. While she was at my house she ate some of Baby's food. Within an hour she started to vomit and poop but we thought it was just food poisoning....
August 11- We arrive home from Vegas. It was an amazing trip. We are not thrilled to go into Marsi's house because it had been uber smelly for the past few days. But we were excited to see our baby. We had been worrying about her all weekend but I figured she just had food poisoning and probably would get over it within a day or two.......
....as we walked into the bathroom where she was staying, we could hear her crying and we knew it wouldn't be good....little did we know the events that would soon play out...
...she looked horrible. We decided in an instant that we had to take her to the emergency vet. We thought hopefully it's nothing serious, just an extended cold or something...She had panleukopenia...and within 45 minutes we had to make he toughest decision of our lives.
7 week old Dr Winnie Piddles, PhD lived a very short life. She brought so much happiness and love to our tiny apartment and we loved her so much. I miss her dearly and I hope she is in a better place. I am having a hard time coping with this, thinking "could I have done something to prevent this?" and feeling horribly guilty...but in the end....it is done. She is playing in a green field with a ton of toys and pooing all over the place. She was only in my life for a week, but I love her so much. She will never be forgotten.
Rest in peace, my little WinWin
