blast & botheration for not-cotton 'cotton' fabric

yesterday i got to the fabric shop in Marrickville (Jack Textiles) to see a closing down sign, and after a quick chat they're relocating in 6 weeks to a smaller store. They're not sure if it'll be on Illawarra Rd or Marrickville Road but it'll be much smaller (ie back to their old size).  They now only accept cash too ... which is common in the budget fabric shops as the bank fees they pay for transactions are ridiculous if you're going for narrower margins & higher turnover.

I got 7m of 112cm black cotton & 2m of a very lightweight linen for a chemise (pale pink with a narrow black pin stripe every 2").  If only it didn't have the pinstripe I'd have bought more.  In fact I may go back for more to make chemises anyway.  I can live with the widely spaced pinstripe under most clothing.

What made me unhappy was that half way home I started petting the cotton & realised that it didn't feel right.  So I did a burn test when I got home.  Yep, polyester or poly/viscose blend.  Seeing as I find poly too hot in Sydney cos I overheat, and the price I pay for overheating is too high I can't use it. So I'm giving it away to a good home.  It wasn't expensive, but it's more that now I have to go out & buy more fabric when I'm paying off nastycard.    I've got money set aside for 2 pairs of shoes I'm bidding for on ebay, and one pair i really really want as I know it fits and I can get a lot of use from them.  Also the payweek that my YWU/FR subscription rolls over so it's going to be a tighter budget than I planned for.

I'll just leave buying more black fabric for another week, and work on the underwear.  I'll need to order another busk & boning, but I'll mock up and order them when I know exactly what I need.

fabric in, whine time
