Despite not have my wits about me today, I managed to get to the post office to pick up my parcels. And there were 3 not 2. {bounces}
First up, my Cooking with Jane Austen by Kirstin Olsen has finally arrived from overseas. It took over a month, dagnabbit, but I'm happy at it's minty newness.
Second, a bundle of vintage hankies from eBay. 50+ of the pretties. Yes I know a lot of people prefer tissues, and I did until I had a hideous flu and the woodpulp sandpapered my nose. So I switched to hankies. Soak in salty water with borax and that helps kill bacteria and dissolve the ick. Boil in a designated stockpot with finely grated soap.
Thirdly, my fabric buy from FFC. The pale blue stripey lawn is a lot sheerer than I was expecting. It will have to have another layer under the bodice. But I like it. The blue white floral circular motif lawn , also much sheerer than what gets sold as lawn over here. but pretty. I'm not sure if it's more of a costume fabric though. both of them have since sold out.
Lastly the
marigold wool challis that I intend to dye is fabulous but yet again a lighter weight than expected. Yes it's listed as shirting, but that covers a range of different weighting and this is on the lighter side. I'd defintely need solid petticoat coverage under it! But I shall overcome. And perhaps it's going to be too lightweight for winter! Even a Sydney winter.
Also sewing related, I ordered two of the 3 new Decades of Style patterns. I got the
1930s Stardust skirt, and the
1940s Claremont lightweight coat. I did a market research group last night, and I'm using my "expenses" money to instead of taxis to/from, get patterns for my theme of vintage clothing.
