Thanks to the Sydney Morning Herald a DF and I got to see Animals in Love for free on Friday night. it was like a private screening cos no one else was in the cinema. Once we realised we really were going to be alone I got up and ran around waving my arms like an idiot.
It's a good documentary so long as you completely ignore the voice over commentary at the beginning & end. It's pretentious and seeminly irrelevant. We wondered if it was a bad translation from the original french release.
Something that would have improved it would be saying what bird/animal it was & the country. A kangaroo is pretty obviously Australia but the birds??? there were lots n lots of birds and we were clueless about most of them. The bower bird with it's obsession with blue items, well that I knew.
Another improvement would have been a clear demarkation between the stages, it wasn't always clear - especially with the waffly introduction - that they'd star t with the competive rivals and then the blurred shift to the mating rites. And there's some weird stuff out there!!!!!
