Question About Waistbands

Hello-

I have recently discovered that I much more of a skirt person then I had previously thought, and while I have been going through the sale communities I have come across a lot of awesome skirts with shirred waist bands. I am not a big fan of these- I prefer a solid band or half band, I find them more flattering a lot more comfortable. So my question is this: How difficult would it be to change a fully shirred waist band into a regular one? Is it even worth doing-? How expensive would it be to get done by a seamstress?

I should also note I have very basic sewing skills, and little to no technical knowledge of sewing- would it be possible to do this myself?
