Project Title Nautical JSK - registration here

Project Start Date 10/9/12
Planned Finish Date 16/9/12
Actual Finish Date 14/9/12
How happy are you with the result?
90%. The construction is great - I finished all the seams with a zigzag stitch, bar for the skirt, which has French seams. The bodice is lined with some great floral fabric, which I really like as a design feature.

I changed the way I was going to do the ruffles, which was a great decision - they’re made of half the thickness of fabric now, so they gathered a lot better, and the white zigzag adds a great contrast.

However, the ribbon along the skirt is kind of puckered. It’s not particularly visible, but I’m knocking it down 10% for that.

What techniques did I use?
YouTube link this method for gathering thick fabric.
YouTube Link is what I use as a reference when sewing princess seams.

Now...pictures!

Front and back of the jsk on it's own:

Apologies for the blurry picture on the right, I was taking pictures of myself.

Sample co-ord:

Please excuse the messy hair and lack of make-up, I'm showing off the sewing, not my co-ord skills. I’m happy with this first attempt at a lolita jumperskirt, and I look forward to expanding my lolita wardrobe!

I have put a cut in, but I've not been having the best of luck with them. If it doesn't work, please let me know in the comments.

* style - sailor, * design element - corset lacing, # dress- jsk, * design element - shirring, * fabric motif - solid, ! project completion
