So lessee.... I have to finish up Clannad and Gundam Wing and catch up all the anime from this season that I stopped at around episode 5 and I have to start Mouryu no Hako and Kurozaku and I have to catch up on Terminator: Sarah Connor Chronicles and start The Mentalist and Dexter and check out a few Chinese movies and ancient series I'm interested in... Sometimes, I wish I was a regular American who just listens to Linkin' Park and watches Family Guy all day long and has absolutely no sense of the world outside. Would make my life easier.
But thankfully (I guess), the
winter line-up seems pretty damn crappy. But a few I'd like to comment on (because a list of the ones I'm interested in would be too short):
Akikan! The story revolves around a typical high school boy named Kakeru Daichi and the can of melon juice soda that he bought from a vending machine. The can suddenly transforms into a beautiful but standoffish girl that Kakeru nicknames “Melon,” and more “Akikan” (”empty can”) girls appear. However, Akikan girls need to be infused with carbon dioxide from kissing to survive.
I'd vote this as strangest and most awkward plot ever if I wasn't aware of Japanese subculture. It just screams FAIL. And why kissing? I mean, I understand the reason outside the series, but inside? There's carbon dioxide all over the fucking place; can these girls not inhale or something? Or attach them under your car -- you'll get a greenhouse gas free Jeep. Better yet, attach them to jet planes and just have them clean up the atmosphere. Best of all, it ain't child abuse if they're actually cans.
Natsume Yuujin-chou
I hear awesome things about the series, but it sounds like it has such a boring story. Sounds extremely episodic with some kid helping out spirits.... And it doesn't even sound like an interesting premise. It's like a nice, friendly version of the monster-of-the-week shounen style.
Viper's Creed The story revolves around the members of a private military company (PMC), and the uneasy tension between them and the regular military after a war that caused massive environmental destruction.
It sounds like an interesting story, but the art is a horrible turn-off and the leading guy reminds me of GI Joe and makes me feel like this'll end up as a horrible action flick.
Genji Monogatari Senneki Adaptation of Murasaki Shikibu’s classic novel The Tale of Genji... The work recounts the life of a son of a Japanese emperor, known to readers as Hikaru Genji, or “Shining Genji”...For political reasons, Genji is relegated to commoner status (by being given the surname Minamoto) and begins a career as an imperial officer. The tale concentrates on Genji’s romantic life and describes the customs of the aristocratic society of the time.
This is a classic I would never read because it's so dense with Japanese culture, so I should probably watch it so I can have intellectual dinner-party discussions. But ew. It sounds like such a terrible story. I don't want to watch or read something about some guy's love life with social commentary on the side. Jane Austen is terrible enough and she speaks the same language as I do.
And apparently, he raised some ten year old girl to be his wife. Ew much? Lolita does it way better because the protagonist is a fucking psycho who's lying to the reader.
Kurokami the Animation Keita Ibuki is an independent and struggling freelance computer programmer who had a chance meeting on one night with a high Mototsumitama named Kuro. He gives her his dinner, a bowl of ramen, and tries to protect her when she is attacked in an ambush by an unknown Mototsumitama. Keita loses his entire left arm during the fight between the Mototsumitamas, but Kuro was able to save his life by exchanging the decapitated arm with her own left arm since she has enhanced healing abilities like all Mototsumitamas. This creates a contract between them, which makes her more powerful than before. However, Kuro warns Keita that they need to be together all the time in order to be at their strongest.
Uuuh. Shakugan no Shana much? The heroine even has red hair. It sounds like a terrible cliche story, but it's Sunrise. So I guess I'll watch a bit.
White Album The White Album game centers around Tōya Fujī, a college student dating a rising idol singer named Yuki Morikawa. The game deals with the challenges to the couple’s relationship from the other people at Fujī’s college, Morikawa’s work, and elsewhere.
They're lesbians, BTW. I find it somewhat interesting that the summary leaves out something like that -- it's usually considered an important detail, but you can argue that love is love, so gender doesn't matter. Even though watching lesbians makes me feel either queasy or awkward (depending on how lesbian they get), I'll check it out because it seems to be focused on homosexuality in regards to society and isn't just straight out lesbian porn. Also, Aya Hirano. I'm not that big a fan of her voice acting, but she makes me giggle because of the T-shirt incident (she sung a live for Haruhi while wearing a shirt that said "Did you cum twice too? I need a tongue bath").
Slayers Evolution-R
Again? Again?! I understand they're trying to draw in new viewers, and I'm fine with that -- I'm not one of those people who hate video game ports and remarks -- but they did this last season and it FAILED. Anime has evolved way past Slayers now, and it's just not entertaining anymore. You can only milk cash cows for so long until they hit menopause, ya know (actually, I'm not sure if the menstrual cycle is directly related to milk production, but you get my point).
Hetalia Axis Powers
Because my God,
sapphire_pyro won't shut up about it. Also because it'd be awesome if done right -- history is very awesomely crack material to go on.
Ride Back
Ride Back tells the story of a girl a her “Iron Horse” robot motorcycle in 2020, a tumultous time of anti-goverment student protests.
Anti-government protests? I'm in. Mecha? I'm in. Anti-government protests using mecha? I'm out. Also, ew, robot motorcycle.
So yeah. No definite OMG I WANNA WATCH THIIIIS~ vibes from any of these.
