I just got letters from, like, eight colleges in the mail today (and one from Columbia a while ago. Sneaky bastard -- getting to the students before the other colleges can). Holy shit.
I remember signing up to receive information from colleges on my PSAT exam, but Jesus, this better not become a weekly thing.
I figured I might as well start looking at colleges and have some sort of idea what i want. So, I made a nice, pretty Excel spreadsheet and all. I have like a bazillion columns and I've just filled in two: name and place. Nice. How do people manage to figure out what colleges they want?
I go to their websites and they all spout BS about their values and teaching methods. I don't recognize any of the names; they won't give me any concrete statistics. The page introducing the place the college is in tends to amuse it. Many of them are OMG THIS IS SUCH A BIIIIIG CITY AND THERE'S SO MANY SITES TO SEE AND PLACES TO GO AND DID I MENTION HOW BIG THE CITY IS?! They're trying to hype it up so much, and I'm just so not phased because I live in one of the biggest symbols of modernization.
I don't even know if I want a college in the city or suburbs or some huge fucking plain of nothingness. I'm so used to the city and it's so nice and convinient, but gosh would it be nice to live in a nice, peaceful, calm place with fresh air.
And majors. Jesus. I wanna learn about everything. D= Why can't I?! WHY IS THERE NO JACK-OF-ALL-TRADES MAJOR?! And of course, how much I want a major is inversely proportional to how useful it is/how much I want the related careers. Fuck. Why do I have no interest in medicine? D= I'd never want to be a doctor because it seems like such a tiring and stressful job, but I hear pharmacists get a shitload of money just for filling bottles with medicine.
So, basically, to everyone on my friend's list (I think you're all older than me), what should I be looking at in a college? Because I'm at a complete lost and I refuse to look through their entire websites.
