Book Updates

I'm glad that I'm still able to get in lots of reading time while here at my sister's place. I'm still not getting online much, though.

Here's my most recent books read:

80. Four Puddings and a Funeral by HY Hanna

Miss Hanna is back on track with the 6th book in the series. When an abrasive widow is murdered at her husband’s funeral service, there’s a myriad of suspects, including Mabel, the leader of the Old Biddies! This one was super fun as Gemma and the ladies did the sleuthing all on their own, especially since Devin wasn’t the lead in the investigation. Muesli also causes a little bit of trouble for Gemma when she gets loose in the tearoom, an indiscretion which Gemma fears may shut her down. I really enjoyed the misadventures and Gemma’s creativity in this one!

81. Zombie, Illinois by Scott Kenemore

In the midst of a zombie uprising, three disparate individuals try to prevent murder and a hostile city takeover. This was intriguing because it mixed the gruesomeness of zombies with political commentary on the corruptness of Chicago politics and the resilience of underprivileged and underserved neighbourhoods. It kept me interested on all fronts, and was a real page-turner. Unfortunately, the deus ex machina ending was a real disappointment, as were the punctuation issues with the dialogue.

82. Another One Bites The Crust by HY Hanna

This one was a super fun little mystery. This time around, a famous chef is murdered at an Oxford college fete, while the village’s lonely Mrs. Purdy desperately misses her cat and develops an obsession with little Muesli. I felt like the ways in which Gemma and the Old Biddies found their info was pretty natural, I loved the side stories involving Devlin’s mom and an unwanted Oxford visitor, and I didn’t guess the murderer!

Hope everyone is doing well. We finally had some rain last night and are supposed to have more today. *fingers crossed*

ALSO. Yesterday I went on a long walk for the first time since the heat waves hit. I walked almost 7km. I also signed up for another Conqueror Challenge. This one is a 290 km walk called Alps to Ocean, on the south island of NZ. I'm looking forward to what scenery I'll be able to see on the street views.
