Book 01 is complete!

It's a weird feeling of accomplishment to cross that first title off the list and put a check mark next to a prompt. Woot woot!

01. The Skull Throne by Peter V. Brett

The fourth book in the Demon Cycle series takes the focus away from Jardir and Arlen and focuses it on the events that transpire because of their disappearance. Most of the action takes place between the two great Greenland cities: the seized city of Rizon, now renamed Everam's Bounty, where Jardir's eldest sons vie for the throne; and Algiers, where Thamos and some of the Hollowers have returned. But there are machinations within machinations, and it is the women of the court - Jardir's wife, Inevera; his daughter and Rojer's wife, Amanvah; Aisha, one of the first women warriors; and Asiva, advisor to Jardin's eldest son - who are most able to influence the events to come.

This is a fast-paced and exciting book with a lot of moving pieces and a lot of big surprises, none of which I can share here without spoiling everyone. Suffice to say that I gasped aloud on more than one occasion. All of the women in the book are powerful in their own right and in different ways, and I love when the focus is on them for long stretches because they're all fascinating. The time just flew by. There is also a great sense of history here, as Mr. Brett reminds the reader of connections from previous books. The result of all of this is that it feels like a real history of a real people, which is not surprising with his wonderful and detailed world-building.
