Ho Ho Ho!

Nov 21, 2021 17:18

I usually wait until the end of November, but I couldn't resist any longer. Today I put up my tree! Also, earlier haldoor and I were chatting about ornaments, so I took a photo of the three old ornaments I have that just have sentimental value. YAY CHRISTMAS!!

These are the two ornaments that were handed down from my mom. I don't even know what they're made out of -- plastic?? -- but when I was growing up we had several of the big star ones and my sisters and I all thought they were so pretty. Over the years a few broke but when mom moved into her own apartment there were still 3 left so me and my sisters got one each. The other "gold" ornament in the photo is one that I just used to think was soooooo fancy when I was young, so that one came to me, too. :)

This was hard to get a photo of because it's small and awkward, but it's a dog made out of a pipecleaner. I remember I won this in a third grade bingo game at school and I was sooooo happy. He's stayed with me ever since.

Every year I buy myself a new ornament for my wee tree. I love this style so I've been buying these even though they are waaaaay too big for my tree. But this year I bought Bob instead.

Here's my little tree. Since this photo was taken I rearranged the top part a bit and added a little ornament up there were it was looking so bare.

Mom's ornaments on the tree.

Bob is sooooo happy to be spending the holidays at my place!

I've also been reading (of course) and working on my 101 goals.

I made my revised Book Reading Goal and have now read 85 books! I'm not revising again, I'll just keep going and see where I end up. :) And I ended the goal on a five-star read, woot!

85. Seven Perfect Things by Catherine Ryan Hyde

A 13-year-old girl named Abby witnesses someone throw a bag into the river. When she realizes the bag is squirming with movement, she leaps into the river and rescues the seven puppies inside. Abby's father is abusive, her mother is cowed, and she is desperate to take care of the pups. Meanwhile, newly widowed Elliot has returned to his old hunting cabin in the area in an attempt to begin to heal from his wife's death.

This book had been sitting in my To Read pile for a while because I feared the angst it could bring. I needn't have worried because this is a light, heartwarming story about the power of love in all its different forms. Loved it!
