Another one bites the dust

Tonight the breaks is between the semi-finals and the finals of the women's kayak slalom. I started this book when I was waiting for the semi-finals to begin because I figured that I didn't have enough time to do much of anything else. Little did I know that it would be such a fast read.

53. Fever Dream by Samanta Schweblin, translated by Megan McDowell

What is says on the tin?

A young woman lies dying in a clinic, telling the story of how she came to be there to the young boy at her side. But is he really there? What is the significance of the story the boy's mother tells in the dream within the dream? What is the point of the scene with the boy's father? Is the boy as otherworldly as his mother claims? While this certainly kept me turning the pages, it's just entirely too surreal and metaphoric for my tastes.
