Prompts 10 and 11 for 25 Days of Fandom
Prompt 10 is Has LJ stopped you from joining any fandoms? If so, what ones and why?
I can't say that LJ specifically has stopped me, but the state of Supernatural fandom in general certainly stopped me from participating there. I still did things that celebrated the show, including going to an SPN convention, but there is just a level of, well, I mean... some of those fans are just kinda batshit crazy, okay? Between the massive twincest and the RPS obsession and people getting off on the car and how it's just sort of expected that you should know every detail... I just didn't have the time or energy for that, anymore. So yeah, in my younger days I might have been a Dean/Cas writin' fool, but I'm just too old now. :D
Prompt 11 is How do you feel about the people in your fandom(s)?
I wonder if anybody ever answered this with, "They suck. I hate them all?" Anyyyyyway. Yeah, I mean, it's the people that make the fandom. I stuck around in QaF fandom much longer than expected just because everyone was so awesome and genuine and truly cared about making the world a better place. Live Free or Die Hard fandom is essentially just me and Snick, and she's about the best friend a girl could have. My experience in TWD fandom mostly came from AO3 and tumblr, where I was accepted with open arms and everyone was super kind. So yeah, I have had very few bad fandom-people experiences.
