It’s all coming together, people!

Everything under the cut contains spoilers for Episode 307: When The Dead Coming Knocking, which aired last night. Do not read further if you haven’t seen the episode!

Okay. First. Let’s just talk about how fucking BASASS Glenn is, shall we? He killed a walker while tied to a chair! And you know, it’s not even that he killed a walker while tied to a chair (holy shit) but also that he stood up to Merle’s torture: he didn’t cave even when Maggie had a gun to her head, he kept his wits about him, he even deliberately lied about the size of/who was in their group. Unfortunately, he couldn’t know that Andrea (grrr) was already in Woodbury and that she had already ‘fessed up that Dale among others was no longer alive. Glenn was so completely and totally kickass. I already love him to pieces, but now I love to him to more pieces.

Which brings us to Maggie. I feel a little bad in saying this, but I’m a bit disappointed in Maggie. I know, I KNOW that she was being sexually harassed and she’d heard Glenn getting beaten, but when The Governor told her to take off her top, I really wanted her to be like, “No, you want it, try to take it” and just… fight back, you know? Like I repeat, I get that she’s terrified and I’m sure as hell not saying I’d react any differently, but that doesn’t change the fact that I was a tad disappointed. And I was actually really disappointed that she gave up the prison. Why not say that your group is at the storage lockers (that Carl mentions in Ep.101) - if they’re gonna kill you it’ll happen regardless of where you say your group is, and if not then it buys you some time to potentially plan an escape or give Rick time to reach you, while still not putting your group in danger.

I am truly disgusted by The Governor. That scene with him and Maggie was difficult to watch, but I honestly think it was necessary to keep the realistic tone of the series. It’s a sad fact that if society were to break down, there would be men like The Governor who would sexually assault and/or rape women, simply because they CAN. It’s disgusting and horrible, but it would happen. I also thought Lauren played all of her scenes with The Governor simply brilliantly - amazing work.

I continue to dislike Michonne. I wish I liked her. I WANT to like her. But she ticks me off. She goes alllll the way to the prison, injured, with their baby supplies. And why? Well, in my opinion it’s because she WANTS their help. She saw the way Maggie and Glenn acted toward each other and made a ‘these are good people’ evaluation. She also saw that Glenn and Maggie refused to tell Merle where their group was, so that would also raise them up in her estimation. So she decides to go to the prison, assuming that the prison group will want to rescue Maggie and Glenn - and she can help them with that, AND get Andrea out of there. But when she gets inside the prison? She acts like a dick. She’s combative, aggressive. She won’t answer their questions. She won’t even tell them her name. Eventually she releases some info but I don’t get why she wouldn’t just be (reasonably) upfront with them from the start.

I DID like that we finally got to see some vulnerability from Michonne, though. When she is watching through the bars and seeing Carol, Rick, Daryl etc with Lil Asskicker baby Judith, there was a real longing on her face. She might not want to admit it, but she wants that - that sense of family, of people who truly love each other and are caring for each other. It kind of makes me wonder what kind of relationship she had with Andrea, if after 8 months on the road they didn’t have that. (Or maybe they did, and that’s part of what she’s missing?)

I think sometimes the problem with Michonne for me is that I DO always have to guess at what she’s feeling/what her motivations are/what she wants. I don’t like to be spoonfed but I’d still just like a little more from Michonne.

So they decided to go with “got dehydrated and passed out” with Carol, huh? Okay then.

Melissa McBride was fantastic in her scene with Rick - hugging him (and god, he looked SO happy to see her!) and then seeing the baby and realizing what that means. So many emotions in such a short span and Melissa played it PERFECTLY. Honestly, that was the best I’ve seen her. (Everyone in that scene nailed it, too. Rick and Carl tearing up, and Daryl - previous to that big reveal - sounding so proud when he announced how she’d managed to stay alive, and that little grin on his face.)

Speaking of Rick, glad to see he’s back. I also really loved the moment between Rick and Daryl when he thanked Daryl for taking care of the baby while he was insane dealing with things. Daryl’s little “that’s what we do” was perfect because it really showed how much they are a family -- that’s just what families do, you don’t even think about it. Same as when they’re discussing going after Maggie and Glenn and Beth asks, “Why are we even discussing this?” and Daryl’s like, “We ain’t. I’ll go after them.” Because they are family. And they’re not being abandoned.

Which brings us to Merle. And maaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaan. He set a walker on Glenn. HE SET A WALKER ON GLENN. I just. My mind just keeps going past what actually happened in the episode and skips forward to “what the hell is going to happen NEXT???” Because. He beat Glenn. He set a walker on Glenn. He tried to kill Glenn. There’s no coming back from that. How can Daryl justify that, ever? He can’t. Even if something happens that puts Merle against The Governor (pure speculation here)… there is just no way past this. I am mindboggled right now. MIND.BOGGLED.

I continue not to care at all about Andrea, who is still an idiot. Or Milton and his experiments. Or Woodbury at all, really, aside from how Woodbury impacts on our prison group. I just want these two groups to FINALLY meet.

And lastly, the one really stupid part of the episode: dude in the cabin. Not only does he not wake up when people come barging into his place, but he’s been living in the middle of the zombie apocalypse for a YEAR and has no idea what’s going on? He doesn’t fear the walkers outside? He still thinks there’s some form of law enforcement and wants Rick to show him his badge? Really? REALLY? And also: how bad must that place have smelled to make Daryl comment on it? This is the guy who - when they came upon the tent that they thought Sophia might be hiding inside in Ep. 201, and it ended up containing a VERY dead maggoty man who’d “opted out” - walked blithely in and looked around and snagged another gun while outside Rick and Shane were gagging and trying not to puke. So that must have been one super-gross-smelling cabin. I’m just sayin’.

If you want to talk about the ep, feel free to comment! But please, no spoilers for unaired eps or the comic books. I’m a spoiler-virgin and want to stay that way. :)
