Return of the King

Dec 31, 2003 00:53

Just got back from Return of the King. Eh. At least it was better than Two Towers, but I sooooo loved Fellowship and everything after has been a disappointment. Anytime I am mentally (and sometimes verbally) mocking the movie on my first viewing, it can't be a good thing. Unless of course them movie lends itself to mockery so easily like, say, Planet of the Apes.

Am using this lj-cut thing in case anybody considers discussing a movie that's been out a few weeks and is based on a book that's been out for 50 years as "spoilers". Coz I'm all about protecting the spoiler virgins out there, being one myself for QaF. That's the kind of hairpin I am.

  • Am supremely pissed that so much of Faramir and Eowyn's story was cut. Faramir rocks.
  • Ditto Saruman and Wormtongue. Whaaaaat? Though it was a blessing to only have to endure a moment or two of the Ents.
  • Hobbit love is pure and true. I want to be invited to Merry and Pip's wedding.
  • Eowyn is stronger, smarter, sharper, bolder, gutsier and prettier than Arwen. What the hell was Aragorn thinking?
  • "Hope is rekindled." Lovely moment, with the lighting of the flames.
  • Ummm... Aragorn with his hair tied back isn't too bad.
  • My Legolas-lust from Fellowship was every so briefly reignited with the whole climbing-on-the-elephant thing. Oh lust, how I've missed ye. Alas, you were gone by the end of the scene.
  • Battle scenes were appropriately chest-thumping-worthy. Is that part with the severed heads in the book?? I don't remember that at all!
  • I think I am too much an animal lover, when I start thinking that the poor elephants didn't do anything to deserve those deaths. They were just transportation! Poor elephants.
  • Could that ending have beeeeeen any longer?

Spent last night chatting to Ridiculously Romantic -- glad we finally connected! -- and miachen, and had much fun. My little padawan actually approved of my "Why Justin Prefers To Be The b/j Giver" theory. Yay me. She also made me a pretty new matching hair icon. Can't have Brian without Justin, now can I?.
