Mission 101 - Week 66 :)

Jun 07, 2009 05:06

One of the interesting things about setting long-term goals like Mission101 for the first time is that you learn as you go. In my case, I've recently been going through a LOT of stress at work While this stress is now mostly resolved, the whole situation has resulted in a pretty major reduction in my monthly income. Lesson learned: do not include too many goals that are based on your ability to come up with the funds to accomplish them! I've also learned that the tasks I set for myself should be "me" oriented; that is, not relying on anyone else's input or participation in order for them to be accomplished.

Therefore, I've made some changes on my overall list. I have eliminated several money-based goals, even those that most people would think are "necessary" like going to dentist or getting glasses. Ah well, can't afford it right now. I've also tried to substitute new goals in place of ones that were money-based. For those cases when I couldn't think of appropriate substitutions, I put in a To Be Added tag.

I'm looking for 2 goals in "Health and Fitness", 1 goal in "Travel", and 1 to 3 in "Misc", so if you guys can think of anything in those categories that are non-money-oriented and you think are something I can work towards, let me know!

Meanwhile, here's my accomplishments for !

Week 66

Completed

#35 - See 7 plays
Changed from the previous "see 15 plays" due to financial restrictions. I figure, in less than half the time allotted for the Mission, I did half the original goal. That counts as complete in my book.

#37 - Go to Dundurn Castle
It was a lovely Saturday so I decided to walk down to Dundurn and investigate the castle and environs.

Above: The "castle" itself. Not really a castle, of course, but a mansion. Former home of Sir Allan MacNab, prime minister of Canada from 1854 to 1856.

Above: Chapel? Not really sure. I'm planning a few more visits; the park is huge and there's lots to investigate.

Above: Gorgeous flowers

Above: One of the many beautiful views of the park

Above: THE PEPINO EFFECT. I love this shot. I did not actually go down the stairs because I feared them. I'm bringing Krystle with me on the next excursion and I'll make her check 'em out first. Hey, she's teeny. ;)

Above: There is a castle garden in which flowers, herbs, and vegetables are grown and harvested as they would have been in the 1800's. Found this little wheelbarrow there.

In Progress

#39 - Watch 50 movies
  • 46. The Day After Tomorrow with Dennis Quaid - This happened to be on TV and I'd never seen it, and I love apocalyptic & post-apocalyptic storylines. Pretty much your standard disaster movie fare. Cool special effects.

    #44 - Walk 1 hour 4x/week for 4 months
    [4/64]
  • Walked 1.50 hours to another city, at very good pace - 4.5 miles
  • Walked 1 hour around downtown, at moderate pace - 1.27 miles
  • Walked 2.5 hours, very slow pace - did not measure mileage
  • Walked 45 mins to Dundurn Park at very good pace (2.11 miles); walked around the park for 45 mins; then walked home (50 mins) at very good pace (2.15 miles). Woo!

The first day I kind of overdid it. I felt fine, except I gave myself a massive more-than-blister that is still raw and sore a week later. This means that I'm stuck in sandals until it heals up. But I'm still gettin' out there!

#49 - Drink no more than 1 can of Pepsi/day for one month.
    [8/30] Doing good so far!

    #56 - Lose 50 lbs
[10/50] Lost 5 lbs this week, bringing my total to 10 lbs in 10 days. It only gets tougher now!

    #64 - Participate in 100snapshots
[11/100] 10 photos in this batch, bringing the total taken up to 11.

Above: Prompt 11 - Smell. This was actually taken in March but I forgot to include it previously. Jen hamming it up. :)

Above: Prompt 12 - Growth. Taken in Dundurn Park. I love the spread of the branches.

Above: Prompt 33 - Concrete. One little flowering weed... struggling to survive.

Above: Prompt 45 - Fall. Lost petals.

Above: Prompt 59 - Two. Taken in Dundurn Park.

Above: Prompt 67 - Smile. Another that I forgot to add. Jen looks so happy.

Above: Prompt 86 - Road. So quiet and peaceful; no sounds except those of birds and scurrying little animals. This road leads to the view of the water.

Above: Prompt 89 - Distance. The view from the end of the road in Prompt 86. :)

Above: Prompt 94 - Home. This little building is stuck at the back of Dundurn Park. I just thought it looked adorable.

Above: Prompt 98 - End. Reaching for the sky.
