The episode starts with Abby showing her forensic science stuff to a bunch of boy scouts. They're more interested in her tattoos than the equipment, since - you know - preteen boys. It looks like McGee's their scout leader.
Just to show how they find fingerprint matches, Abby scans one of the boy's fingers. It says that he was abducted.
"Am I in trouble?"
Abby quickly disappears, leaving McGee to watch the boy.
Carson: How am I going to get home?
McGee: We're going to figure that out.
Gibbs quickly shows up and puts the kid at ease. He's good at that, isn't he?
Carson: The boss.
Gibbs: To some people.
Youth rangers. That's what the boys group is called.
The kid's dad is a survivalist. That's probably not going to end well.
Tony: It's very Lifetime.
Ziva: Lifetime?
Tony: The cable network? Geared toward women?
[She stares at him.]
Tony: You'd hate it.
McGee tells them that Abby's watching the kid, and both Tony and Ziva seem a little... worried.
Abby's shooting a gun, while the kid pretty much drools over her. He's so adorable.
The dad's up in the wilderness somewhere, and there's no way of contacting him.
Hee! The kid's room is like a picture straight out of Tony's fantasies.
Carson and Abby are playing Box Office Trivia, and the kid's kicking butt. He knows his trivia.
Carson: I left without kissing her goodbye.
Abby: The great thing about moms is that, whatever you do or say, they always forgive you.
Jenny's looking at an article in a newspaper about Mann's retirement, and she quickly hides it when Gibbs walks in the room.
Gibbs really knows how to play her, doesn't he? :-P
Gibbs: Meet your new house guest.
Jenny: I can guarantee he's better than the last.
The dad's not on the run because he kidnapped his son. He's on the run because he murdered someone.
Hey, it's Martouf JR Bourne.
He's playing Collins, a guy who works cold cases. Apparently he and Tony have a bit of a past, from a couple of cases DiNozzo worked back when he was with the Baltimore PD.
Abby: You've see everything.
Carson: Not everything.
Abby: Forget about the tattoos. It's not happening.
It's always so great to see two grown men in a pissing contest.
"And then you can help. When I ask."
Ziva: I'm driving.
Tony: I'm dead.
Hee! Even Gibbs agrees that the kid's a mini!DiNozzo.
It never ceases to amaze me how terrific Gibbs is with kids. It's so sweet.
"I'm also a trained assassin."
Tony takes one look at the map and starts walking off in the wrong direction. Ziva has to point out that the trail's in the opposite direction.
McGee and Abby are absolutely adorable together. :)
The step-mom already knew that her son was kidnapped. She hired a private detective several years earlier, to find out what he was hiding. All she knew was that her husband changed his name and went on the run, though, she didn't know about the murder.
The dad called his son the night before, which means he knows that Tony and Ziva are on his trail.
They make it to his base camp, but - while the people he's training are there - the dad's already disappeared.
"Does this mean I'm going to jail?"
Tony looks thrilled to be out in the middle of nowhere.
Even though the kid warned his dad, Gibbs isn't getting mad at him. He knows the kid was just trying to protect his father.
Ducky's trying to teach Jimmy had to create psychological profiles. It's not going so well.
The dad turned on his phone and stuck it in the back of a truck. He's playing games with the search team.
Carson: The Playboy Mansion!
Jimmy: What? It's a school, Carson. [pause] Are you sure you don't know Anthony DiNozzo?
The dad called one person, but when Gibbs and McGee get to the guy's house someone's already killed him. He's got a knife in his chest.
Ducky: This young man didn't stand a fighting chance, Jethro, because...
Jimmy: ...he didn't fight.
Brian Taylor just called NCIS headquarters and asked to speak to Gibbs by name.
Abby just figured out that one, or both, of the cops tampered with evidence. They framed him.
McGee: Whatcha doing, boss?
Gibbs: My job.
They set up the cop so that they could get a confession from him.
Hee! Tony's trying to win back his title as trivia king, but the kid wins. And Tony bows down to him. Literally.
And the episode ends with Carson being reunited with his parents.
