Okay, we're moving into Christmas in my series of "this is how I spent a week with my family" posts. Let's see if I can make it through the entire day before my family finds me.
Now, where was I in the narrative? I went to sleep a little after midnight on Christmas Eve, which meant I actually managed to sleep in until 7am or so. (I'm used to EST, which means I have a tendency to wake up ridiculously early when in CST.)
It's tradition to have a full Southern breakfast on Christmas morning, with Dad's side of the family. Country ham. Milk gravy. Biscuits. Sausage balls. Eggs. Muffins. All that stuff that's delicious but horrible for you. It was at my parents' house for once, which was a pleasant surprise, since that meant I actually had internet access the entire day.
Anyway, everyone eventually showed up and we had breakfast. Afterwards, we settled in to play Rook and snack for the next several hours. Everyone but my aunt M left by 1pm or so, but we still had enough for Rook, so we kept playing.
She left around 3:30pm, around the same times that my aunt R and uncle K (Mom's sister and her husband) showed up. There was more snacking and playing Rook (and Scrabble), this time with added John Wayne on the TV. They stayed until, oh, 6:30pm or so. At which point the immediately family (the parents, Little Brother, and sister-in-law E) could open gifts so that Little Brother and E could get home.
My gift from my parents was a folded piece of paper telling me to go search the basement for my present. I was shocked, utterly shocked I tell you, to find a giant box (of the "too large to easily wrap" variety) with a microwave on it sitting down there. There was no possible way I could have guessed that was coming. It's not like my mom had to call me three times earlier in the month for the measurements of my kitchen or anything. ;-)
In other news, apparently Little Brother
knows me well.
Anyway, presents were opened, and then Little Brother and E headed home. I then spent the rest of the night putting in time for Part-Time Job and generally hiding from people.
