As most of you probably know, Small Press Expo basically takes place in my backyard. (The hotel where it's held is about a 5 minute drive from my apartment about about a 15-20 minute walk, if that.) Because of that, I can't help but go by for at least a little while every year, although I typically have to run away after 2-3 hours because I can't deal with the crowds of people any more.

I had a platelet donation scheduled yesterday morning, so I did that and then headed over to the hotel to wander around. I'm still amused by how many familiar faces I saw, considering how packed it was.

Anyway, my standard practice is to basically wander the dealer room taking cards, bookmarks, and other free things from anything that looks promising. Then I can go home and take a look at them online to see if it appears to be something that I'll like or not.

I put aside a specific (and small) amount of money to spend on pretty artwork that catches my eye (like these), any new book collections of series I already read/love, as well as some absolutely adorable chibi art cards that I buy at least a few of each year. (Right now, I have all of them for The Avengers, Community, and Doctor Who, plus several of the X-Men ones.) Other than that, though, I'm there mostly to browse and try to discover new things. And, you know, I usually succeed at that. A lot.

I'm still going through the many, many, many cards that I picked up to see which ones catch my interest as I have a chance to check them out. I'll probably make another post in a few weeks linking to all of the art/comics/etc. that I enjoyed. There's one website so far that I absolutely have to link to ASAP, though.

Nonesuch Garden. Absolutely adorable handmade dolls. And the Sproutlings! Oh, if I had the money, I totally would have bought all three of the ones that she had with her. ♥♥♥ They're even more awesome than they look in the pictures.
