Title: A Different Side of You

Pairing: QMi

Rating: PG-13

Genre: AU, Romance, Comedy

Summary: Student President Cho Kyuhyun makes sure to look impeccably presentable every single time - bordering to a different kind of Kyuhyun altogether. But when taken off-guard by a surprise home-visit by his recently-met-one-way-crush, he’s caught de-masked and under-dressed - literally!

--

He shouldn’t have opened the door.

Either that or Ahra should be one on his place right now - all back-pressed, stance alert and eyes bulging wide so ready to pop. Anyone could assume that Kyuhyun might have seen a ghost on broad daylight.

But this was no ghost. Unless there were ghosts dressed as gorgeous as Zhou Mi, which would probably be a different case. Still, it was Zhou Mi.

Zhou Mi in his tight pants, white undershirt and red checkered polo, all smiling and greeting. Would he able to smack to those teeth off with the way Kyuhyun slammed the door close that it almost reverberated and rattled the windows? It was all levels of rude, even for him.

“Kyuhyun? Who’s there? And why do you look like you want the ground to eat you alive??” Ahra, and here obliviousness, asked curiously. She saw the frosted glass next to the door, with a silhouette, presumably their visitor. “Hey, aren’t you getting that?”

“No!!”

Kyuhyun almost rushed out until Ahra caught his arm and pushed him back. “No no no, you’re not gonna make me answer that! Kid, just go get it!”

“I can’t!” He protested, rather violently. Ahra had never seen Kyuhyun so disarray.

“Oh, jesus. You didn’t have any problems with visitors before. I swear if this is one of those Fedex people and you’re just being unusually jumpy, I swear…”

Kyuhyun paled, his flailing arms ceasing slowly. “It’s worst…”

He caught himself through their corridor mirror, wearing last night’s flowery boxers and top with a graphic art that said, WILD AT HEART, WILD IN BED (courtesy of Shindong, last year’s birthday prank present), he turned even paler than possible; his color skin in contrast with his brown disheveled hair all sticking up in four directions and face just acne-ified. It would take an hour to actually tame those crazy tresses and hide the blemishes.

He was not about to show himself like this, not to Zhou Mi. Please, not to Zhou Mi. Him at his rarest and rawest self on a Sunday. Why on earth did Zhou Mi know his home even?  Today was supposed to be chill day, academics and council paper work, not a hot guy on his door. Time was running out because Ahra was growing impatient, and probably the visitor outside as well.

There was a knock, and a soft call, “Kui Xian? I know you’re in there.” The tone amusement and sheer delight was evident. Kyuhyun wasn’t sure if he’d get turned on or rather just hide inside his room for the rest of his life.

“Shit.”

--

It was like this, a routine of sorts all played and well-thought of for almost two years already. Kyuhyun learned that in order for people to somewhat leave him alone, it only took casual clothing and seemingly demure whilst his smart personality to get him anywhere. Teachers approved of him, underclassmen students looked up to him. Heck, even his gaming teammates greet and speak to him with respect. Living it up as a “high-classed, mature and responsible” man earned him perks. It hid well his temperamental and cunning way of thinking. When he seemed like he’d just brush off an insulting remark like any mature person would do, inside his head were scenarios of chainsaws, ropes and probably chemical XXX of all angles possible.

Yes, his mind said awful things yet his actions did another. It was two opposing traits in one body and Kyuhyun was pleased with this arrangement nonetheless. Only at home he was uncoordinated, loud, brash and sarcastic because no one would see.

Until Heechul introduced Zhou Mi to him.

“Hello!” That new Chinese man grinned, all blinding and sunshiney, that one afternoon a month ago. Kyuhyun would gladly give a simple, friendly acknowledgement (just like he practiced over and over again because networking was vital! He’d meet people all for the sake of acquainting and future benefits) but the second he took another look, that was a mistake he wasn’t sure he was glad he made.

He kind of fell in love right there. With Zhou Mi’s eyes and infectious smiles.

Kind Of was replaced with Pretty Sure as Kyuhyun observed Zhou Mi during the times they had group get-togethers. Zhou Mi was kind, spoke slow Korean yet never missed to speak politely. Probably he spoke sincerely and honesty with no malice, unlike him.

And his insane adoration for branded clothing line exhibited while they were walking around the mall? Kyuhyun ought to think it was ridiculous. Instead his mind raced the words, Oh my god, how is this man can be so girly and insanely adorable at the same time?

“Ladies, ladies~ check this out!” Zhou Mi flagged their female companions, cooing over the window display. Right then that Zhou Mi was never left without one or two girls next to him ever since. Kyuhyun suspected that it was his way to charm the opposite sex? After all, what kind of man would know what this pair of pants goes well with that blouse? Girls dig a man who was fashionably inclined, that was what.

To which Kyuhyun wasn’t. He supposed he dressed okay. He supposed his taste was okay.

But Zhou Mi, his taste and how he dressed was beyond okay. It was stunning each and every time. How could he remain not attracted to that?

And yet, here they were - Kyuhyun barricading the door while Zhou Mi spoke on the other side. The predicament still at hand. Could Kyuhyun jump off to the next window open and die from a one-storey building fall? No, he’d probably get leg bruises instead.

“C’mon, open up~ I bought cake!”

Ahra almost, almost smacked him straight on the head. “Your friend bought a damn dessert. Isn’t that enough for you to stop acting so unpredictable and weird?? Open this or I’ll call mom.”

Kyuhyun had options including flicking the lock and running to the bathroom to save himself or-

There was no option two, when Ahra unlocked the door herself. Kyuhyun literally stood like a tree with roots firmly dug under soil. Unmoving, gaping and heart screaming. Holy shi-

His profanity was unmatched.

--

“So, you’re Kyu-kyu’s friend? He doesn’t tell you much.” Ahra cooed, pouring Zhou Mi warm tea. “I do apologize for his… unusual behavior. He’s not like that most of the time.”

But kind-hearted Zhou Mi bowed apologetically, “I apologize, I must’ve visited in an untimely manner.”

Then there was inner squealing, “Gosh, you speak so formal! Kyuhyun should learn from you!”

“Could you like, leave? Don’t you have shopping to do??” Kyuhyun bit out; poorly covering himself and his appalling shirt and shorts with available throw pillows. He cursed to why these throw pillows were this small in size. Nex time, he was buying the largest ones.

There was no escaping this, now they sat on the couch and treats were presented everywhere. This was the part of house-visiting when Visitor-Sits-Comfortably-For-Incoming-Long-Talks.

“Oh, yeah! I do! Have fun you guys!” Ahra waved, winking at Zhou Mi before she left through the main door.

“Good riddance,” Kyuhyun had wiped an invisible sweat, until he realized Zhou Mi was watching him with such amusement in his eyes. Like he was watching something really interesting. “What?”

He didn’t want to come off too rudely (but, heck, he was for the last thirty minutes already) but Zhou Mi was making his heart go crazy he couldn’t compose himself properly.

“Nothing,” Zhou Mi said, “I just didn’t know this side of you.”

“What side?” Kyuhyun made to stand, to avoid being more awkward than he already was. But there had to be a little water mess on the floor and he just had to slip as he made his way to kitchen. He just had to be clumsy today.

“You okay?” Zhou Mi asked, yet the sheer interest in him didn’t leave. It gnawed Kyuhyun more. “You’re this clumsy?”

“Now you know.” Kyuhyun sighed, covering his eyes with an arm, all sprawled on the floor. Could he just disappear right now?

“Nice shirt though.” Zhou Mi bemused, the smirk in his tone was not something Kyuhyun could amiss.

“Oh, shut up.”

Zhou Mi hmm-ed, “You know, for a silent guy, you seem to have so much running in your head. I kind of see it?”

“You do, huh?” Of course, Zhou Mi was just as observant as he was. Kyuhyun thought that they probably outmatched each other but, well, Kyuhyun was kind of a gay and Zhou Mi wasn’t a…

“You’re different when we’re out.”

Oh, busted. All these years of perfecting his mask, now transparent because of this Chinese man? What else Zhou Mi couldn’t do?

“Yes, well, it gets me by.”

Kyuhyun wondered why they were having this conversation while he was still horizontal. Then again, Zhou Mi still looked amazing and sexy in forty-five degrees angle.

Zhou Mi crouched, coming closer than Kyuhyun’s heart and mind could take. “I think I like this side of you more than what I saw before. You’re more comfortable like this, right?”

In his home clothes or? Kyuhyun was the slowest one sometimes.

“I-what?”

Zhou Mi didn’t just subtly say he was kind of... But the paper was placed atop Kyuhyun’s nose, nearly making him cross-eyed as Zhou Mi stand upright again, grinning downwards at him.

“Let me know when you’re free. Call me in that number and I’ll take you out for lunch. I know this fabulous Italian place.”

By the time he was on his feet and Zhou Mi was five steps away from the house, Kyuhyun rushed to the opened door and asked - all pretenses and demure  gone, “Did you just ask me out? Aren’t you straight?!”

Zhou Mi’s smile was wicked, “I don’t know. You’ll probably find out soon enough.”

Kyuhyun thought that maybe they were kind of the same, the whole pretending to be someone else. Because what he experienced today was a different kind of Zhou Mi than what he saw before.

He’d truly find out. And more.

--

A/N: OKAY. This has got to be the closest thing to an experience of mine since I tend to get so embarrassed when friends see me at my home clothes. On a normal basis and out of home, I dress a bit better than what I do at home. Though this is natural for us, yes? Still, just the thought of someone I really really like see me at my… rawest would probably make me the shyest, awkwardest thing ever.

Then I just thought, hey, that’s cute. Because regardless of looking totally undollified and unperfect, that person is still attracted to you. And that same person finds you even more amazing still because you’re you, no enhancement, no fixing, just you.

Ah~ What am I saying! Bah!! So, anyway, comment~ and I’d love cookie-fied comments!
