A/N: Okay, seriously. This had been my longest Super Junior chapter of all the SuJu fics I made! I just couldn’t cut the story into two so I just had to write everything in one chapter! I do hope this chapter ain’t so lame for you.
Disclaimer: I own nothing, yeah? But I can dream, right? LOL.
Warning: minor cussing, drama-ish, angst-ish and angry Ryeowook.
“This has been going on since last week? No wonder Sungmin-hyung’s been quiet all this time! I thought he was just stressed out with meetings and radio shows!” Ryeowook confirmed after hearing the magnae’s complain about a certain incident that had happened at their dorms five days ago.
Kyuhyun shifted at his seat; his one leg on top with the other and slender arms crossed against his chest. His eyes were closed and brows furrowed - an expression of annoyance mixed with frustration showed on his face. “No, something was already wrong even before the radio shows. I’m certain that it was during the last fan-meeting.”
“For real?”
The youngest member was just too sharp that he couldn’t forget that expression Sungmin gave him when the latter and him shared a brief gaze at the fan-meeting. Sungmin’s eyes were filled with uncertainity and anxiety that Kyuhyun couldn’t simply ignore.
“I waved at him but he just looked at me like he was going to cry.”
“Really?”
“Then I decided the next day to check up on him, - you know that one right? But instead of welcoming me, he smacked my face hard. I just don’t get him sometimes…” Kyuhyun’s rambles trailed off and had his head leaning down and shoulders drooping in defeat.
“Interesting, Kyu.” Ryeowook, like an idea-bulb suddenly lighted up, began wearing a knowing grin, making Kyuhyun halt at his list of generalization about their Hyung’s recent odd behaviors. “I know you being observant and all but watching Sungmin-hyung like that - his every move and feeling - even though we were all busy? Even I couldn’t read the others’ negative expressions clearly especially if we were in public!”
The magnae just stared at him, not comprehending completely what the member speculated. “And your point is?”
“Do I have to spell it out for you? Geez! You’re totally different when it comes to Sungmin-hyung, you know! You’re not like that to Eunhyuk-hyung or Hankyung-hyung or Zhou Mi-sshi! Still not getting it, are you? It means that you’re interested with him, for goodness’ sake!”
Kyuhyun just stared at Ryeowook like that latter was talking drunk. Not that Ryeowook drank liquor like Kibum and Kangin but still. “Wai-WHAT?”
Ryeowook shrugged his shoulders and spoke like what he was saying was the most obvious information in the entire universe. “Kyuhyun-ah, you’re so transparent! Even Henry-ah could notice your affectionate gaze to Sungmin-hyung. At first it was just a speculation with you and your special attention to Hyung but now… THIS PROVES IT!”
It was a good thing that Ryeowook and him were the only ones who were talking so loudly for the whole world to hear, inside their dressing room or else someone from the staff might hear the interesting development undergoing in Super Junior.
Kyuhyun just sat back on his seat and shook his head, certain that what just Ryeowook announced was completely nonsense. “That is just too impossible, Wookie. Me liking Sungmin-hyung? I like girls! He likes girls as well! Do you remember how suave and happy he was dancing with that female contestant at Star King? That’s it. End of conversation.” The youngest artist finished angrily and immediately averted his gaze from the male in front of him.
“Really now?” The Eternal Magnae raised a brow at his friend. Slowly and softly, he spoke with seriousness - a tone of voice that was rarely shown by Ryeowook to anyone, not even to other members. “Tell me, why do you have that disappointment on your face AND tone then?”
Kyuhyun’s eyes widen and felt his voice disappeared on him. He stiffened and for a moment and couldn’t think of anything except Ryeowook’s piercing question and his hyung’s strange behaviors.
Suddenly, the door of their dressing room opened and Yesung’s head popped from the opposite side. He chirped, “Yah, Ryeowook-ah and Kyuhyun-ah! Manager-hyung wants us outside! They’re about to discuss our next photoshoot theme here!”
“Omo! Look at that huge water tank!” Shindong and Kangin marveled continously; their gazes went from one spot to another and watched the unbelievably enormous glass container being filled with fresh water. Other than the water tank, various decoration were put up such as numerous rusted chains -drooping in fashionable way- above, long metal pipes at the sides and spot-lights hanged from the ceiling. Then there was that big propeller at the back with white light coming out of it.
The photoshoot theme was similar to Don’t Don’s but only more dramatic and had a more grunge atmosphere. Everything looked like it was a scenario of an underground sewer minus the foul smell and rats skittling around.
“Check out that platform!” Donghae pointed and everyone turned their gazes at the metal walk-way hanged above the water tank with the help of the same rusty-look chains linked at every corner of the said platform. “Wait, are we going up in there??”
“And are those chains going to last? They look brittle!” Eunhyuk, looking distressed at the thought of posing at the suspended walk-way, worriedly turn to their manager.
Finally, the director, who just came in from the entrance, stepped into the photoshoot scene. He was an older man, around thirties; a chubby-looking professional wearing a simple tux and sunglasses “No worries about the props, everyone. We made sure that those chains and other decoration are new.” He spoke on the behalf of the group’s manager. “So, everyone’s all here, yes?”
Right on cue, Yesung, together with a cheerfully looking Ryeowook bouncing and a silent Kyuhyun staring downwards, exiting the door and walking towards the group. It was just by mere coincidence that the youngest member locked gazes with Sungmin when the former decided the look up. Their eyes met for a brief moment only to have the older male break the eye-contact and move away.
Kyuhyun felt his chest tightened; his eyes still following his hyung’s rear figure. Just what exactly did I do wrong? He quietly asked himself. Why are you doing this to me, Hyung?
Because at the back of his head, without knowing a single thing, Kyuhyun never felt this tormented before about Sungmin. Just the thought of older member distancing himself from him drove the youngest member insane.
I just couldn’t look at Kyuhyun straight. Whenever he was close, I felt this crazy nervousness that wouldn’t seem to go away. And fear. Things weren’t this horrible before and I had planned to talk to him, apologize to him as well for hitting him.
This was driving me up the wall. My thoughts would always rewind at the scenario of those fan and I’d get unreasonably upset. Even Eeteuk noticed my odd behavior this past days and asked what was bothering me. Instead of opening up, I simply shook my head sideways and quietly spoke, “It’s nothing, hyung. Just stressed out.”
He gave me a disbelieving look but didn’t press on. He knew that I wouldn’t talk regardless the number of persuasion he would do. I felt sorry after; me being dishonest with Teukie-hyung was something I couldn’t stand doing.
“So everyone’s all here, yes?” I finally snapped back to reality and looked at the director addressing us; his big, confident smile plastered across his face. I averted my gaze unconsciously, half-attentive, and noted the number of staff organizing the photoshoot area, camera men fixing their gadgets and P.A.s pulling out costumes and sets of make-up and other vanity stuff from metal boxes.
Suddenly, my eyes found soulful, raven-black orbs looking back at me and I knew immediately whose expressive eyes it was. Kyuhyun’s; him, together with Ryeowook-ah and Yesung-ah walking towards our direction. My breathing hitched as I felt myself being magnetized to him but I resisted to fall in a deep gaze for the fear of breaking down so I turned and walked a good distance away; my body weakening at every step.
I placed a hand on my chest and felt the fast, painful beating inside. Kyuhyun…
When thirteen young males stepped out from the dressing room…
“LOOKING FABULOUS, EVERYONE! I KNEW THIS THEME WOULD SUIT YOU GUYS PERFECTLY!”
The director instantly turned to a fan-girl -err, boy- and circled around at the members who wore black, red and white; clothes decorated with countless safety pins, zippers and chains; leather platform boots, with silver buckles and eyelets, covering their feet to their legs. Their hair weren’t short this time and instead, were long and spiked fashionably. Some wore long-sleeve shirt under punk vests while the others had on sleeveless tops that were low-cut, revealing a bit of their skin. The clothes they had on were of the same theme but varied in design and concept - making the members having their own individuality but still remained in sync with the group.
Hankyung, Heechul and Siwon wobbled at their attempt of walking around at the area with their platform boots on. “Omo! This is difficult than I imagined!”
“I feel like a total giant already…” Siwon spoke quietly, successfully walking without tripping. “Can I just wear those normal boots at the dressing room, director?”
The director eyed him from the control area, as he watched the monitors, and gave a thumbs up. “Alright, change to tha-Oh, place the camera right over there and let the light blink here, got that?”
Eunhyuk, who was having so much enjoyment with his new clothes, ran around while his make-up artist ran, yelling -“Hyukjae-sshi! The foundation isn’t done yet!”- after him.
“We should wear clothes like this more often!” Eunhyuk then latched himself to Sungmin, who looked equally good-looking, and beamed at him. “Right, Sungminnie?”
The mentioned male wore a little smile, letting himself being clinged on by his co-member. “Yeah…”
“SHOW TIME, PEOPLE! I WANT SUNGMIN-SSHI AT THE SUSPENDED WALK-WAY NOW PLEASE!” The director happily announced, making the camera men position themselves at various places; the lights being tested once again and music -Sorry Sorry- being played at the background for internalization-purposes.
Sungmin himself walked gracefully at his appointed area, passing by Eeteuk who glanced at him worriedly and Heechul who eyed him suspiciously.
Sungmin’s past worry, frustrated and pain look on his face immediately faded and was replaced with a firm, serious expression. Slowly, he made his way up the photoshoot spot, leaving behind the thoughts that bothered him.
Inluding Kyuhyun.
“Is there something wrong with Sungmin-sshi?” Heechul finally asked Eeteuk when the mentioned male was at a good distance away from them. “I never see him this down before.”
Eeteuk looked even sadder than possible. “I know. But he wouldn’t tell what is bothering him.”
Ryeowook, who just happened to stay near the two eldest members, immediately took off and went inside the dressing room, looking for certain youngest member.
Kyuhyun was being dragged like rag doll by the arms. Who knew Ryeowook had this hidden muscular strength in him? Even the platform boots the Eternal Magnae worn didn’t hinder him from taking Kyuhyun to the photoshoot area forcibly and bringing him to their leader and to the second eldest.
“Eeteuk-hyung!” Ryeowook called, making the two older male glanced at their direction. “Kyunnie has something to say!” That said, Kyuhyun squirmed at the his sunbae’s grasp but found difficulty since the clothes he was wearing was kinda tight and hard to move about.
“What are you doing?!” Kyuhyun growled quietly, prying himself off to Ryeowook’s grasp but continued to fail; them coming closer to the two.
“Really, Kyuhyun. I just can’t stand all this drama going on with you and Sungmin-hyung! Why don’t you guys just kiss and make up already?!” The unbelievably powerful Ryeowook barked back. “Geez, do I have to do everything here?”
It took a full two seconds before Kyuhyun registered every word the older male said and turned beet red. “W-w-wai-
“Ryeowook-ah? Kyuhyun-ah? What’s going on with you two?” Eeteuk asked curiously when the younger members reached their area. Heechul wore the same expression as well, watching the two exchanged knowing looks. Kyuhyun decided to keep quiet, not wanting to mention about the current problem at hand. But Ryeowook decided otherwise.
“Hyung, Kyuhyun here thinks that the reason why Sungmin-hyung’s been down is becau-
Then there was that alarming, creaking sound.
“OH SHIT THE CHAINS!!” One voice screamed in alert. Soon, another one followed.
“GET SUNGMIN OUT OF THERE NOW!” The other yelled in desperation; a voice that sounded like it came from the director.
All the people inside the warehouse quickly turned their gazes and saw one of the chains of the suspended platform breaking off, making the platform where Sungmin stood tilting towards the water tank. Sungmin, looking very terrified and shocked, held on of the remaining chains.
“SUNGMIN!” Eeteuk and Heechul sprinted towards the tank. Unbeknown to them, Kyuhyun followed but with more speed than the two, leaving Ryeowook in a state of stupor.
The staff near the area sprung into action as Sungmin struggled in holding himself using the chains. He was about to place his foot on the edge of the platform away from the direction of the water when he slipped and finally lost balance. The people watching gasped in terror as the artist fell helplessly on the tank.
SPLASH!
The chains on my wardrobe paralyzed my arms and hands, immobilizing my attempt of swimming upward. My boots, heavy-weighted, continued to drag me downward to the waters and I could feel the lack of oxygen coming in.
“Ah- ah-
I tried swimming up but I felt myself being pushed down even further. That was then my temples pierced painfully and unbearably and my lungs finally reached its weakest point; water gushed inside forcefully.
There was no more oxygen. I’m not gonna die this way, am I? What about my apology to Kyuhy-
My body turned limped and gradually losing strength. My eyes, despite the painful feeling of having water in it, remained open and soon, it slowly closed. My mind was already at the thin line of blacking out when a hand grabbed my arm and pulling me to a tight embrace. The last thing all I could remember before completely passing out was this familiar, melodic voice calling out to me.
A voice that I knew so well despite the loss of consciousness.
“Sungmin-hyung! Sungmin-hyung!”
It was Kyuhyun’s.
A/N: If this kind of story is turned into a movie of some sort, I’d totally sell my soul to SM Entertainment! Okay, I’m totally deluded. Review, my pretties! That is, if you liked it.
