Anime Oasis 2010 - Part the First

My Reviews for Weds and Thursday in Anime Oasis Land.

Wed 5.26 - Drive and Check-In
The drive to Idaho was calm and uneventful. Riverdale, UT has a great area for food and supplies right near their exit, which included a beautiful Jo-Ann ETC (2107). And a lot of entertaining conversation about various fandomy things.
Got to the Hotel around 10 pm. The hotel staff were awesome and courteous and prepared for the ensuing madness, a bit of unpacking later and we were ready to crash for a few hours. We did take a rather entertaining hike around the nearby area of Boise until we found food (Pita Pit in this case) and had something to eat.

Thurs 5.27 - Day 1
We woke up around 7:30 or 8, and I got into Yuushi, because comfort is optimal when exploring a new con for the first time. I know I eventually hooked up with the PGs, who had arrived at 8 am or so... I also watched Cosplay Chess and tried to watch something in the video rooms. One of them was down entirely and the other froze in the middle of something very interesting looking that I never caught the name of. Cally and I wandered the dealer's room and artists alley before cosplay chess. Which was EPIC AND AWESOME. I did spend a lot of the time worrying over whether our board was big enough though.... but eventually I think Mik smacked me down and I shut up.
I think it was at this point that some kid chased Sora/Cally down the stairs and tackled her without warning, crushing the handle of /Kay's/ keyblade.
The next couple of hours were spent changing into Akram and then attending the Villain's Tea Party. I think it would have been much better with more people in character... as it was it was just me, Marik (AJ), a 16-year-old zombie who was starving himself to death because apparently cons are more important than food... he also turned out to be the asshat that tackled Cally earlier. I think I scared him a bit. And then later Sora (Cally, who I can not stay in character around and it not a villain, but was looking for Riku) and then a twelve-year-old Naruto kid... who I sincerely wanted to punch in the face at least once. I saw the end of the AMV contest after that... I'm sincerely considering getting into editing for a couple of my long-held ideas. And then there wasn't actually a viewing of the swimsuit contest, so I retreated to my room and freed myself from Akram.
AJ, Cally and I attended the 18+ Dating Game, Sora was adorable, The King was horrifying, Twins are hot... etc. There was an hour gap after that and before the Yaoi Discussion, so Cally and I followed a posted sign to find a room-panel-thing about BL and Otome games. Which turned out to be run by Mistress Alita (?) who runs BL Game Headquarters, she had some very interesting technology to basically auto-translate (in the babel-fish sense of translate) all the text in a game so that you can understand it and we also fangirled Apocripha/0 and discovered that together we are about 1/2 the Apocripha cosplayers in the history of ever. XD
Cally and I took some of the games she was getting rid of and fled, to make it to the Yaoi Discussion, which was interesting and meant that I met Italy (tinfoil_starz) again. It also shifted on to Y-Con talk and some talk of Nightrunner (and it's author Lynn Flewelling otterdance). Mostly, we were all quite excited about this years Y-Con guests and those who aren't attending were sad.
The discussion sort of wandered off into other topics when some other people showed up, and the group shifted around until it was me and Kitty from Ichidan talking costumes and skit groups and RP characters and ... lots and lots of stuff. XD I crawled back to my hotel room around 4 am and got some sleep...

To Be Continued after some sleep. Overnights are rather tiring.

[Random Note: Somehow, even before this con, tinfoil_starz was only two degrees of LJ seperation away from me, because her mutual friend isogashii05 is friends with baranoneko. How or why, I could not tell you, but damn it is a tiny tiny internet, isn't it? XD]
