Today.
Work killed me. Don't know why it was so hard but it just felt /so/ long... ;_;
After dinner, I wanted to walk around the mall a little. Which resulted in me buying a new phone. Which overall will probably serve me very well. It's just not what I expected to do tonight. It's a Blackberry Pearl Flip. And I am a very pleased Maya so far. We'll see how long it takes me for it to drive me nuts.
The rest of the past couple of days, I've spent a lot of time looking at
Izayoiki cosplayers online. Mostly for ideas and thoughts (dos and don'ts) on Masaomi. The very idea of the jacket is making me kind of crazy at this point.
Unless you are really really interested in the inner workings of my mind on fabric choice, color usage and embellishment technique for this specific costume, you probably don't want to click this:
Overall, I'm really enjoying browsing this site because I get to see the whole range of Japanese cosplayers. The good, the bad, and the poorly photographed. ^^
With Tomomori - This is one of the Nicest Izayoiki Masaomi costumes that I've ever seen. The coat looks good. The kimono looks like an actual lined kimono. Also, her flowers don't look retarded. Always a plus. I wish there were better pictures of her, and I don't really approve of the materials in her Tomomori's noshi. But...
Under Momiji - I /really/ wish there were better pictures of this one. It looks like she used brocade for the applique on the jacket, which I'm considering as well.
Gaijin? - The jacket looks nice. The leaves on the kimono look appliqued and it doesn't look like a full kimono, but many many people handle it that way. Anyway... the clean-ness of the lines on the jacket is what earns it a place here.
Simple - Conversely, sometime simplicity works out. Vinyl, rick-rack, very clean colors. The makeup and such helps too.
...fail? - The sad thing is, I really like the lines of her jacket. But the photograhy is less than satisfactory, the 'kimono' around her hips is made of fail and Tomomori's shirt is a sad story about why fabric paint isn't always the answer.
Experiment? - This may be my number one in terms of 'but WHY?'. I mean... vinyl plus puff paint, interesting color choices and /how/ many styled of gold trim?
A lesson - A lesson in why the 'literal' color reading isn't always the right answer. Also, more of why I prefer applique to paint in some cases.
The back of the same costume (I think) shows that there is actually some really nice detail in her painting. And also that it photographs better from farther away.
Good Photo - Even in a not-so great costume, you can be lovely and take good photos. Also, I hope my wig isn't quite this blue. >.>
More Neutral palatte - I wish I could see her kimono better. I think the neutral tan overlay on the jacket is an interesting choice that actually worked out all right in this case.
Flames! - The visual outline of the jacket detail/applique is lovely. I wish I could tell what she did!
Picture too good? - I can not figure out how she did the gold overlay. But the picture is /so/ big, The wig looks nice too.
Another Brocade applique - She also did the underarm seams mostly open as they appear to be in some of his stills. The flowers on the kimono appear to be metallic gold and silver rather than yellow and white.

1)
With Bridge - I don't know how she did her flowers but... guh. Lovely completion. I wish I could see her pants.
2)
Need better picture! - I really like the look of this overall. You can also see that there's some
real detail in her kimono. (She's also done
Regular Masaomi as well that
looks quite nice. She also did a great
Niou.)
3)
Thank you - Your hand-painting is much appreciated. As are your actually-green pants! Seriously, people, how hard is it to make some poofy green pants?
4)
Wow! - You can take the same types of materials as the 'why' one and make something really clean and nice-looking. It think this is one of my favorites.
Also noteworthy - The only person I've seen to actually wear the kimono even partially up. ^_^
