We're not any different re: this: "focused on helping people discover new things, I don't choose to pursue deep friendships on my free time that take a lot of energies to maintain."
I have lots of people in my life, but very very very few people that I see more than once every two weeks, and the majority of those people I see in party or group situations, so that I can see everyone at once. I don't do "deep" friendships, as I think you define them -- the ones requiring lots of time and energy. However, I keep with a certain set of people, am loyal to them, and think about and talk to them or spend time with them once in a while **over a long period of time**, with the goal of doing so as long as I am alive, which I think is the most useful way to spend one's time, and the most meaningful and beautiful type of friendship. I'm not in a hurry with friendships. That's the thing. There are many people who are in a hurry. I'm not. Those who are in a hurry require too much energy. There are maybe two people in my life who are like that, but they're less so now b/c they've learned that in order to be friends with me requires being not in a hurry.
Just had to clarify that, as we've talked about it before....
Re: everything else, I totally agree!
I think the most important thing is balance between freedom and constraint. Moderation. That's usually the case w/ every damn thing -- Mom was right when she would constantly quote the phrase, "Moderation in all things".
