When you get your thyroid checked, I would recommend asking them to do a full panel, instead of the traditional test. More and more the traditional test comes back wrong. I have been tested since I was a child for thyroid issues and always it came back "normal." When my health started tumbling downhill a few years back and I got incredibly sick for no reason, they finally did a full panel, because again, they were sure something must be wrong. Yeah, my thyroid came back pretty much dead and my current Dr. said that the results from the traditional test were still saying I was normal, while my thyroid wasn't putting out ANY hormone.

I'm so sorry to rant about it, it's just something I am very passionate about because I don't want people to experience what I have. :)

That's actually fantastic advice. I didn't know there was anything more than a traditional test. I will definitely ask for the panel. Thanks! :)

Happy to help! Believe me, it was never mentioned to me until the last couple years, thankfully the Dr. I have now is really awesome and was like a dog with a bone (in a good way) to find out what was going on with me. :)

yes, there are several different tests. A doctor is going to generally be conservative, to save money(sad, but true...if they did the full panel of tests on everyone, insurance companies would not be happy). The different tests are TSH, total T3,free T3, total T4, free T4, etc.
