Escape for the Holidays
Harry looked outside and smiled. He and Draco had decided to go into Muggle London for the afternoon to pick up a few last-minute gifts, and were now relaxing in a coffee shop, their holiday shopping complete.

"What are you smiling at?" Draco asked, handing him a cup of hot cider and staring out the shop's window.

"Look at that poor sod," he said, motioning across the street.

Draco shuddered. "The one breaking his back shovelling the snow?"

"That's the one," Harry said. He smiled again. "This time tomorrow, we are going to be on the beach in Australia, lapping up the sun."

Draco frowned. "Are you sure about this, Harry? Won't it seem strange having Christmas somewhere warm?"

Harry shrugged. "Maybe." He took a sip of his cider and sighed. "But this is our first holiday together. I don't want anyone putting a damper on it, so I'm taking you away where we can be alone." He reached across the table and took Draco's hand in his.

It had been a rough few months for them. Everyone had been shocked when the two returned to Hogwarts as friends. When their relationship had progressed beyond that, everyone from their close friends to other classmates to the press hounded them relentlessly. Even now, months later, not one of their friends, much to their disappointment, had accepted that they were happy together. Tension followed them around like a living, breathing presence. It would be good to get away.

"We could always just say we went, and hide out at your place," Draco suggested. "No one would ever know."

Harry frowned. "You don't mind, just this once, if we have a hot Christmas, do you?"

"I don't mind, as long as we're together." Draco squeezed Harry's hand and smirked. "Besides, what makes you think future Christmases with me will be anything but hot?"
