*shaking head* Oh, computers...

Jul 17, 2013 17:59

I shut my computer down the other day and it decided it didn't want to a) turn back on in any sort of timely fashion or b) properly load Windows. Wonderful, yes? Also, it was for some reason reading an old, inactive copy of Windows on a partitioned secondary drive as the one it wanted to restore.

I checked the Internet for advice (yay, laptop!) and checked the RAM as per it's advice by removing and swapping the sticks in turn and trying to boot. Looks like one stick became partially unseated (possibly due to the ridiculous levels of heat the past week, despite the three fans in the case) and reseating the RAM fixed the problem.

During one shutdown attempt between swaps I got an error message that can best be paraphrased as "Windows is unable to shut down because the thing that shuts things down isn't shutting down." Thank you. That's very - there.

But it is back up and running and will continue to behave if it knows what's good for it.

computers, computer problems
