Yay! Transport!
Today, the lovely and wonderful perfcangel (otherwise known as my favorite person in Long Beach) drove me to the auto repair shop to pick up my shiny car. Gee, I should get in accidents more often. The car is fully repaired (including previous damage) and looks all shiny and new! Yay!
Even more exciting than merely having my car back? I got to meet perfcangel's boyfriend. Finally! I've heard plenty about this guy, but never actually met him. L'awesome.
Other interesting news:
I got a cliched drunken phone call today. I've never had one before. And, okay, I'm not 100% sure this counts.
See, I had just sent a text to Astrid, and instead of getting a text back, I got a phone call from an unknown UK number. I figured "Ah, Asti is calling instead of texting. But why? I know she's out with Jamie and Ankur [two guys from our MPhil course]. Is she calling from the bar?" But I also figured I should answer because it was probably going to be something short and maybe important.
Nope. Not Asti. Jamie. "Astrid gave me your number...."
Under most circumstances (especially considering that this was a "hey, how ya been?" call), I wouldn't interpret this as A Drunken Phone Call (though, they were drinking mightily). However:
a - I have it on good authority that Jamie totally had a thing for me at Oxford
b - okay, there is no "B"
The call lasted maybe 3 minutes before he realized that he couldn't hear a darned thing while at the bar. We'll see whether or not he calls me back from elsewhere.
Kind of neat, though. I don't talk to Econ MPhil'ers from Oxford much. Oh, I still have a number of Oxford friends, but the only Econ'er I talk with much is Astrid. It'd be great to be friends with Jamie again. [And, hey, if he does still have a crush on me . . . well, he's a well-off asset manager in London's Zone 1 with a number os similar interests and friends. I might think about it.]
