So far in 2009 I have done interesting things like ride on the back of a motorcycle (once slowly out of fear for my LIFE) and smoke a cigar by marx's grave.
I need to continue the trend of new and fun by trying to go to more playsandthings. Obviously there is this free thing you can do when you're under 26 which is useful and I have that for another 3 years (fun to be well young). However, it doesn't always exist and there are cheap ways to get tickets to plays. For example, this evening we went to one preview night of 'mincemeat' a play by 'cardboard citizens'. It was a mere £10 and it was in a Shoreditch warehouse which meant that £10 got you the same seat as anybody else...i.e. no seat.
I got the fear when it started and I thought it was going to be extraordinarily cheesy and bad but by location number 3 I was there with it and it was awesome. It moved around into different locations of the warehouse and it felt as though as you moved you got ever deeper into it, into what was going on with the character, learning as he was learning and just feeling more involved. Bizarrely, it ended where it started but you wouldn't have known as the room was dressed so differently but really, it comes highly recommended. At it's most expensive it's £20, no concessions on a normal night.
It's about identity and truth vs fiction, it's about the value of a life and the value of one's own life, it's also a bit about WW2. It's great. It also has that brechtian self referential style thing which is what I was a little wary of, but actually it turned out great by the end.
I hope to go to see A Doll's House with Gillian Anderson, partly because Laura loves X-Files and I spotted it to her but then she told me that it's actually also a brilliant play and her avourite. I have no knowledge of any plays (wish I did, must start learning) and so I was ignorant to this. Now that it has been said I have learnt by going to the actual theatre that although it's sold out people tend to return tickets (the person before me this very afternoon returned 2 front row seats for tomorrow night!wish i was loaded!) but they also sell cheap standing tickets (7.50) and cheap balcony tickets (15.00) on the morning of the show. I will get balcony, I'm so glad I could sit on the floor at this evening's play, srsly, I can afford a seat, I don't want to be on my feet for 2 solid hours.
In other news new band wrote SICK EPIC song on Sunday, still not complete but is totally EPIC. Old band seems slowly be edging itself back on track, I hope it stays there, I love you keybore. I'm kind of ignoring my dire money situation in all this fun though, must get full time job. I totally didn't get around to asking Nikki if she wanted me to do tuesday mornings for a while, while I can. Dumboat.
I am also trying to actually read a novel for the first time in 2009. I kind of miss theory though, where are you Grundrisse? or maybe Being and Time? or maybe Anti-Oedipus. Actually, maybe number 3 would be the most fun and rewarding. Yeah, anti-oedpus, i already bought it.
