Practical Magic & Movie Discussion

Oct 25, 2005 10:15

Ahh, there's nothing like coming into to work and getting paid to do virtually nothing.

About my last entry, things are looking much better. I mean, things are still the same, but they look better in my head. I've gotten over the initial shock that comes with having any kind of serious conversation with my parents and am now viewing the whole subject of school with the same passivity I always do. School? Pah. I'm going to sell everything I own (except the art that put me into debt) and hop a plane out of here.

Meanwhile,

David Copperfield plans to impregnate a girl on stage - with magic! Magic sperm!

Cleolinda Jones of m15m has written a book in her 15 minute fashion featuring the Ten Biggest Movies Ever For People Who Can't Be Bothered. I think once my bank account has recovered from my Halsey addiction and laid down some solid career goals (*eye roll*) I'll purchase a copy of this. But seriously. I bet it's really funny.

Fem-blog! What fun.

A Few Movies I Want to See

  • Shop Girl - The trailer for this movie really got me, mostly because the music in it rules. I really like Claire Danes too as I've yet to see her in something that I didn't completely love (except for Brokedown Palace, but as I recall I was alone in disliking it).

  • The Weatherman - I don't particularly like Nicolas Cage, but this movie looks dark comedy enough for my to really appreciate it. For some reason I got a sort of darker, more developed Spanglish feel from the trailer. Which is weird because I didn't see Spanglish. So yea. Moving on.

  • Saw 2 - I just realized that Beverly Mitchell from 7th Heaven is in this movie. Will I pay 10 dollars for the possibility of seeing abear trap snap over her head? Hell yes.

  • Rent - I basically just need to see if they managed to translate it from stage to screen without fucking it up.

  • Crash - I've heard really good things about this movie (in my film class and on the radio, oddly enough). The only thing that sort of weirds me out is Tony Danza being in it. einstras and I recently gave Scott "Chachi" Baio another shot though, so maybe it's time I give one to Tony.

  • Harry Potter (GOF) - Because I've seen the first three and read all of the books and there's no turning back now.

  • Elizabethtown - I actually am not totally sure what this movie is about. Most of the time I enjoy Kirsten Dunst which is mostly why I'm wanting to give this movie a shot. Although... Orlando Bloom without an accent, in my opinion, is a waste of time.

  • Pride and Prejudice - I've already talked about this one here

  • In Her Shoes - I read the book and liked it (I've enjoyed everything by Jennifer Weiner, so far) and look forward to seeing the film adaptation. The role of the grandmother, I think, looks a little more prominent in the movie than it is in the book. Sure, it's essentially about the family connection and all, but it's really just about the sisters. I dunno, we'll see.

  • The Producers - I've actually never seen The Producer's, be in on stage or in its film version (which is weird because I like Gene Wilder) so I don't really know too much about it. I do know that I like Matthew Broderick and Nathan Lane though, and Will Ferrell is usually funny.

  • North Country - The former Women's Studies major in me refuses to miss this movie. I really dislike Charlize Theron, a hate that I'm pretty sure developed during my first and only viewing of Cider House Rules. Monster was good, but ugh, she bugs me.

Movies You Couldn't Pay me to See
  • Flightplan - Because Jodie Foster is probably an alien. Or her missing kid is an alien. Or everyone on the flight crew is an alien.

  • Doom - Whatever.

  • Dreamer - Dakota Fanning. 'Nuf said.

  • Zathura - The X-Box generation's Jumanji. Meh.

I should go to the movies more. I should really just let go of that fear of going alone. I went and saw The Corpse Bride alone in Boston and I survived. I dunno. I hate sitting along in the theater and having people possibly thinking I'm a creepy loner. I'm really not, I just like seeing movies more than most people I know.

The lights are flickering like crazy in here. We're getting the ass end of a hurricane and a little bit of the Noreaster. I'm sure the power will go out any moment. It already has once. Believe it or not I typed this entry twice. I hope atleast someone read it.

P.S. I'm thinking about buying a renaming token. Any ideas on a new name for this place?
