Once again, I came home and started to work on more cleaning and stuff for the BBQ and something happens to waylay me. What is it this time? Flooded basement. The OTHER side this time! I am cursed. This is why Scorpios HATE water! LOL

So, I am cleaning last night and step on one of the pillows around the coffee table and it's wet. I look up, no pipes above it. Hmm..start looking and ALL the pillows are wet and so is the rug. I notice Dorreen is home so I ask her to pop over. At this point I think it's the incoming water pipe along the basement floor (which is part encased in cement) as I don't think anything on the other side of the basement got wet. WRONG. It's ALL wet. Everything on the other side is soaked, including the boxes. Sigh.

At this point we are worried that it might be the pipe and the break is in the part in cement (that would mean jack hammers and a fortune). We both want to cry at the thought. Uncle Rod arrived to do some stuff and I have him come down to look. Takes a lot of going inside and out and following the pipes a few times, but his final verdict is there is a crack in the foundation (so take that over the other option so I can live with that) somewhere right near the water faucet on that side of the house.

About 5ish days ago the water ran for a very long time because the timer didn't kick in and at the time that spicket had a two sided connection on it and one side leaked a LOT. Well, that water just totally flooded the ground, which came in through the crack and flooded that entire side of the basement, but it was slow enough it didn't like do inches of standing water at once that I would know about. Instead it just got sucked up by everything down there (rugs, pillows, etc.,). And, as Uncle Rod fixed the spicket after that day, it didn't keep happening for me to catch it.

SO the stuff sat there wet and some things started to mold. That also explains why Mom and I could smell such a strong odor of wetness down there over the weekend. I thought it was just that I hadn't washed all the stuff from that side of the basement flooding. Guess not. Sigh.

Got everything off the floors and everything wet I dumped onto the patio to deal with later. Jill was kind enough to take all the pillows home with her as she has a nice over-sized front loader she can use. She will see what of those can be saved. I will bleach the back side of the area rugs and spray them down and let them air dry out before I move them back in. All the floor tiles (the peel the back off and stick kind) are a loss.

But, as I refuse not to find a silver lining somewhere- at least the destroyed tiles were the old ones and I hadn't just laid all the new (intended somewhere in the future) black ones!

Uncle Rod had me lay down some newspaper along the side he thinks the leak is in and along the pipe so if in the morning it was dry we could probably safely say he is right and if it was wet there was something else going on. Happy to report it is dry )
