Roller-coaster ride. CLAMP and I have a love/hate relationship.

Just read chapter 166. And what an emotional ride.

So I've been imagining scenes where Fai is coughing up blood and dying due to some tie to Ashura (Ashura's death = Fai's death and that's the 2nd curse or something) and he'd have to magic the gang out of Celes with the last of his strength because Fai coughing up blood and dying would be so gorgeously tragic (I'm sick, I know) and I've been emo-ing for the past two weeks because I knew CLAMP would never cop-out and kill Fai. And then Fai was coughing up blood and dying! And I'm all 'Wahhh! CLAMP is going to leave Fai to die and he's magicking the gang away as his final act' and I was both amazed and saddened because I didn't think it would actually happen.

And then DEUS EX MOKONA! and I'm all "Of course!" and I was gladdened and saddened at the same time. But then NO! even Mokona magic is not enough to get Fai out (when did Mokona wake up?) and I'm like "Wahhhh! CLAMP is going to leave Fai!" and there's the slowmo look of resignation and farewell between Kuro and Fai that was so tragic that I could hear the background noise fade away and the lilt of a boy soprano. And it was beautiful and sad and brave and WTF did Kurogane just lop off his arm!?!

How in hell's bells did that allow Fai to get out?! What if Kuro was WRONG and that didn't work!? Way to take care of the kids as a cripple! And that was his promise arm too (with the scar!)

Well, at least Fai is all cursed out. If Fai lives through this, he's got something else he'll feel guilty about until Kuro orders him to live so his (2nd) sacrifice isn't in vain.

What's wrong with me? Why did/do I want that look of farewell to be the real farewell? Maybe if CLAMP didn't execute that moment so well. And maybe I'm a little peeved at Kuro ... it felt a little irresponsible. Yes, this way everyone goes - but I almost feel it's better to have a fully functional adult taking care of the kids than to have a severely injured adult looking after two almost dead people, and a weakened boy. Oh Daddy. Mommy's important, but think of the kids!
