The scene between Jiraiya and Tsunade in chapter 366. That's my scene! I wrote it. (See this post for partial draft)
Jiraiya suggesting sake, Tsunade wanting to keep to her hokage duties and going out anyway (man, why didn't I post that snippet?), Tsunade feeling all bad for Jiraiya doing dirty-work tasks, the topic of hokagedom and Jiraiya feeling like his calling was elsewhere and trying to make light of Tsunade's melancholy. The topic of Orochimaru coming up....mine, mine, MINE! (::pouts::) Even talk about traveling beyond borders. Is this for real?
I know I'm being totally irrational, but the Jiraiya/Tsunade scene came out of nowhere and could have been taken out of the chapter without much consequence (I know it was character building and it could be significant later, but allow me to rant just a little more), so it felt like the whole thing was just to discredit me...
I guess I'm just a little upset because I hadn't published chapter 18 for After the Falls where I have my own Jiraiya/Tsunade at a bar scene. If I had published it earlier, people would have been all 'Hey, so cool you predicted it!' or 'Wow, your writing is so in character that it became canon.' Now, it will just seem like I copied canon and didn't put much thought into it. I've worked too hard to be your run-of-the-mill copy-cat fan-author! ::cries::
The only real difference is that my Jirai and Tsu didn't use language that was quite as vulgar. But that was because I wanted to highlight that Jiraiya understood that Tsunade was trying to say something that was difficult for her to voice and respected that. Anyway...
I wonder if posting a disclaimer would help (of the 'I SWEAR this was written before 366 came out' variety). Maybe certification from my beta could also help?
It's late, I'm moving across town tomorrow, not fully packed, a little stressed out and a little emotional right now. Sorry for the rant.
