Welcome to the Garden of the Three Orchids -- the zen title Brandon gave our phalaenopsis collection. It all started with a white fuchsia-lipped orchid Brandon brought home from Trader Joes. The same day I found Ashley's post about her Whole Foods orchid find, which provided a quick education and sad lesson -- we acquired a very Sick Orchid. That weekend we headed to Home Depot to search for a better pot, new potting bark, and fertilizer. While there, I fell in love with a healthy Purple Orchid, which is a great standard to monitor the Sick Orchid against. Then yesterday, I headed out with the intent of finding the most unusual and pretty phalaenopsis I could to complete the collection. We went to Lexington Gardens and Mahoney's Garden Center, but the selection was limited and prices high. We even ventured to Whole Food and Trader Joes hoping to find another low priced orchid. Defeated we gave up and headed to the mall. While there I came across a new flower shop and discovered a lone white orchid with light green lips on the counter. It had beautiful blooms and was half the price of the nurseries but I was in the mood for a more exotic color. I walked away but only got 50 feet away before I went back and got Mall Orchid. The mall is no place for an orchid.
