David's on Facebook!... Things that make you go Hmmm.

Recently, David has changed his website from the super professional looking flash version that plays his most recent video on loading, to well.. um... a blog.  He says he wanted to make the site more interactive.  He also hooked up on facebook, and posted a 30second video of himself testing out the video cam at 5am while lying in bed.

From an ordinary fan point-of-view, I, of course, think this is great, (well, not the website, I really liked the old website, and the new one isn't all that impressive, though one can keep up with his travel details - "Hi. The car's waiting downstairs to take us to the airport but thought I'd say hi.") but from a let's-live-in-reality-for-a-moment point of view, I'm a little concerned he might be setting himself up for some serious trouble.

First off.. at least in my experience, Facebook is a rather intimate medium.  My friend's list consists of  my sister-in-laws and other family members, my friends from school, people I work with and see everyday... people who know my real name and have (mostly ) actually met me, and... David Usher.... That makes him my friend, right?

Second, the little videos... i mean, come on, how could someone you've seen lying in bed at 5am - complete with bedhead and sexy morning voice talking directly to you - not be your one and only?  Okay, yeah.. a thousand other people have seen it too, but we're not thinking about that, now are we.  We're thinking "one and only".  And think of the potential... lovely intimate chats right online with David Usher!

I don't know.. the first concert I went to, I was really impressed with how open David was with his fans, and how free he was with himself, and I know he's been doing this for some 20 years now, so he must have a sense of what he can and can't do.  I like that he's as friendly as he is, I just really hope it doesn't land him in any trouble, because from obsessive-fan point-of-view, this just seems like playing with fire.
