Tennis and Tears
Wow, what an amazing final. I was on the edge of my seat the entire time, I really didn't know from one game to the next who was going to get and keep the upper hand. There were a few moments when Rafa seemed to be fading, but then he turned them around with a series of amazing, unbelievable shots.
Obviously I'm thrilled that Rafa won, but utterly disappointed that Roger had to lose. Which may seem strange, but I'm heartbroken at how much not making his 14 slams has taken out of Roger. His tears during the trophy ceremony were almost too much to bear. Then to see Rafa standing behind him, struggling to keep his own composure, not through joy at his own win but in sympathy with Roger's pain... brought on my own tears.
Rafa tried to offer Roger a little comfort in his pain, but it's difficult to be the comforter when you've also been the heartbreaker.
