I like Obama but I’m at a loss as to why he deserves the Nobel Prize. He seems to be doing a fairly good job in the face of the global financial crisis, debt, America’s less than stellar international image, wars, and a whole host of issues within America, however, he’s been in power less than a year. In that time nothing has really changed. Even if he is the best diplomat, best leader in the history of the world, and has laid the best infrastructure that ever did infrastruct, it can’t change that quickly.
America and her allies are still waging war in Afghanistan, Hamas and Israel are still at each other’s throats, communism still abounds and that’s always been less than pleasing to America, nuclear weapons are still at the table. Seriously, what diplomatic changes has he made? The argument that he has changed the dynamic around world leader has left me with a well duh! attitude. One of the most powerful countries in the world just got a new leader with different ideas and policies to the last one and can actually make a speech, of course the dynamic is different. People like him better than Bush, sure, but we haven’t seen any of the benefits or consequences of his policies or international talks. It seems like he got the prize for what he might do or more cynically, because he’s black, American and articulate. Have they broadened the criteria for Nobel Peace Prizes and just not told anybody?
I just think that there was someone more deserving than Obama.
